Meet Liz Bowman, who not only is a Nexus alumna, but now works at Nexus as a Peer Specialist, helping women on their recovery journeys just like her own recovery coach did for her.

Liz's path to healing was long, marked by early loss, deep trauma, and a cycle of self-sabotage. During her first stay at Nexus, she was not ready to surrender yet, but, Liz eventually returned to Nexus determined to follow every piece of guidance. With the support of her family, dedicated clinical staff, and a transformative recovery coach, Liz immersed herself in Nexus’s comprehensive continuum of care. When she completed residential treatment at Nexus, she moved into off-site sober living, completed 65 outpatient sessions, and attended 120 Narcotics Anonymous meetings in 90 days.

Today, Liz works at Nexus, offering the same lifeline of hope to other women that was once extended to her. Best of all, her recovery restored her family. Her son now lives with her, thriving in high school, with his mother fully present for all of his milestones.

Last week, Nexus hosted the inaugural Pathways to Possibilities Reception at the Erin Cluley Gallery! Guests were able to view several of the art pieces the Nexus Art Committee has selected for the Doswell Medical Building, as well as hear some of the ground-breaking research Dr. Hamed Ekhtiari and from UT Southwestern Medical Center is conducting in partnership with Nexus.

In addition, Nexus had the pleasure of presenting three inaugural awards to some of our amazing champions: State Senator Royce West with the Champion of Hope Award, Bruce Wood Dance with the Heart of the Community Award, and the Stephens Greth Foundation with the Pathways to Possibilities Award.

Through advocacy, art, and unrestricted financial support, each of these recipients has impacted the hope and healing of thousands of women and children at Nexus, and we are so proud to partner with them and celebrate their contributions!

"A lot of people don't realize that Nexus serves as an alternative to child removal. Nexus provides a family-centered approach to healing. When mom can come to Nexus with her children, they can heal alongside one another rather than those kids being removed and going into the foster care system."
