Why We Serve

Joyful Gyvers Adult Advancement Center, formerly known as Joyful Gyvers Adult Development Center, is a nonprofit organization that exists solely to serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Despite the tremendous growth of services offered to young children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or IDD, there is a limited number of programs that address their needs once they become adolescents and adults.

The startling truth is adolescents and adults with IDD encounter an overwhelming degree of discrimination, intolerance, neglect, isolation, unemployment, underemployment, and exclusion. Many are shuffled from one day habilitation program to the next without choice, especially if maladaptive behaviors are present. Autonomy to dictate how their life is lived is limited.

We, at Joyful Gyvers, are here to change that. We are committed to offering support to teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disorders, as well as maladaptive behaviors, through our all-encompassing life, work, and vocational skills programs. Our three fundamental principles are to inspire, empower, and guide. We thrive on providing our Joyful Gyvers Stars with CHOICES to fulfill their destinies, not limiting them to “ideas” of what they can achieve.
