Hey Crestview, checking in on you.

It’s been a heavy, exhausting few days since Hurricane Isaias came through on Friday evening. Between lost power, chain saws humming across town, and kids home while the schools have been closed, we know a lot of you are running on low fuel right now.

If you’re feeling worn out, overwhelmed, or just tired of sweating through the Florida heat, take a deep breath. You don’t have to carry it all at once, and you don't have to carry it alone. Even in the middle of the mess, the downed trees, and the waiting, we have seen so much to be thankful for…neighbors checking on neighbors, extra hands clearing yards, and simple kindnesses everywhere you look. God’s grace and care have been so present in the way this town has pulled together.

We know local public schools are finally reopening tomorrow, which hopefully brings a little bit of routine back to your week. In the meantime, we want to keep being here for each other. If you need a hand clearing debris, a cold drink, a place to charge a phone, or just someone to talk to, please let us know. We’re in this together.

We’d love to gather with you this Sunday, if you’re looking for a quiet place to take a breath and give thanks. Join us at 11:00 am at 1018 Valley Road. Our worship is informal, but joyful, as we sing with songs with our praise team, pray together, and open Scripture for an inspiring word. 📖 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐩 | 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬

𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: 𝟏 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝟒:𝟏𝟐–𝟐𝟐

This Sunday, we were reminded of a sobering truth: 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐚𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐲.

In 1 Samuel 4, Israel suffered a devastating defeat, the Ark of the Covenant was captured, and Eli and his family faced the consequences of years of spiritual neglect. The birth of Ichabod marked a heartbreaking moment in Israel’s history, as his name declared, “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐈𝐬𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐥.”

But this passage is about more than a military defeat. It is a warning about what happens when we lose our reverence for the holiness and glory of God.

Here are three important reminders from Sunday’s message:

🔹 1. 𝙄𝙜𝙣𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨. God is patient, merciful, and slow to anger. He warns us and gives us opportunities to repent, but we must not mistake His patience for permission to continue in disobedience. When God brings conviction, we must respond rather than delay our obedience.

🔹 2. 𝙁𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙣. We can attend church, sing worship songs, read Scripture, and serve in ministry while allowing our hearts to drift away from God. Religious activity can never replace a genuine relationship with Him. We must never allow worship to become routine, Scripture to become mere information, or grace to become an excuse to remain unchanged.

🔹 3. 𝙍𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙖 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚. God calls us back to repentance, obedience, and our first love. Reverence is not simply outward religious behavior; it is a heart that recognizes who God is and responds to Him with honor, humility, and obedience.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬: 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐰𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐇𝐢𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟?

God is not common. He is holy, sovereign, and worthy of our worship. Church attendance, family traditions, and religious words cannot take the place of a right relationship with Him.

When the Lord reveals sin, spiritual coldness, or an area of disobedience in our lives, may we be quick to repent and turn back to Him. Don't wait for sorrow to teach you what obedience is calling you to do today.

The good news is that 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐢𝐦.Whether you need to surrender your life to Jesus Christ for the first time or return to Him in an area where you have drifted, His call is clear: come back to Him.

𝘿𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚. 𝘿𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙢. 𝘿𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩.

Last Sunday, our pastor reminded us of something we really need to hear:

"The world offers a drink to forget your troubles. Jesus offers you forgiveness and eternal deliverance. One is temporary escape. The other changes everything."

It's a contrast that hits different when you think about it. We're all looking for relief from the weight we carry - the stress, the disappointment, the things that keep us up at night. The world has plenty of offers. But they're all just ways to forget for a little while.

Jesus doesn't ask us to forget. He asks us to be forgiven. To be made whole. To be filled with His Spirit every single day, not just when we're desperate, but as a daily choice to let God have control of every part of our lives.

That's not escape. That's freedom.

If you’ve spent any time around Hope Crest, chances are you’ve already seen Emma in action…even if you didn’t realize it was her. She’s one of those people who quietly notices what needs to be done and just jumps in. Whether she’s serving on the tech team, helping out with our little ones, handing out materials, or carrying supplies for an older friend, Emma makes our church family feel cared for in a hundred little ways.

She’s also a big part of our College & Career group! When the class wanted to make their space feel a bit more like home, Emma picked up a paintbrush and created an eye-catching mural to fit their vibe. 🎨

🐸 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫: Emma has interned at both a local zoo and a wildlife educational center, giving her hands-on time with all kinds of creatures. Her dream is to have her own homestead with a menagerie of wildlife…and she has an unabashed love for all things frogs and reptiles.

☕ 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐛𝐞: Her ideal afternoon is stopping by Wondah’s in Niceville to get a chai before heading to Florida Park to watch the wildlife.

Sometimes church isn't just about Sunday morning...it's about showing up for each other when something breaks.

This week, we had a plumbing issue that needed attention, and without hesitation, two of our members grabbed their tools and headed out into the rain to troubleshoot and fix it. No fanfare, no asking for thanks. Just neighbors taking care of neighbors and our shared space.

That's the heart of Hope Crest. We worship together, we pray together, and we work together - even when it means getting soaked. We're a family, and families show up.

This week, we want to challenge you with something simple but powerful: pick up your Bible.

Read Scripture. Sit with it. Let it settle into your heart. When you do, that Word stays with you and guides you when you need it most.

Here's why this matters: Sunday's message reminded us that being filled with the Holy Spirit isn't a one-time experience...it's a daily choice. And one of the most direct ways we invite God's Spirit into our everyday lives is by opening Scripture and letting it speak to us.

Maybe it's a few verses in the morning before the day gets busy. Maybe it's a passage that catches your eye and you sit with it for a bit. However it looks for you, make space this week to let God's Word work in your heart.

"𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖 𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙚, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙨 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚."

What an impactful message this week! Pastor Harold walked us through Ephesians 5:18-20 and challenged us to look closely at what - or who - is truly driving our lives.

We live in a world where it's easy to find ourselves "under the influence" of many things: public opinion, fear, anger, ambition, or our own appetites and circumstances. But God calls us to something radically different.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆: like a glove has no power on its own until a hand fills it, we cannot live the Christian life in our own strength. We need the Holy Spirit to guide, empower, and direct us.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗪𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱:
1️⃣ Confess known sin to keep our relationship with God unhindered.
2️⃣ Surrender our will completely to His authority.
3️⃣ Fill our minds with Scripture so His Word guides our thoughts.
4️⃣ Obey the Spirit's leading as He points us directly to Christ.
5️⃣ Depend on His power rather than our own abilities.
