Every signature starts with practice, and we are thrilled to launch our brand-new Let's Learn Cursive kit at the library!

Learning cursive is a great way for kids to build fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and confidence. We put together an unboxing video to give you a full look at all the hands-on tools included in this kit:

Dear Dragon: A Pen Pal Tale – A fun storybook by Josh Funk about two pen pals writing rhyming letters (unaware that one is a human and the other is a dragon!)

Cursive Letter Tracing Sensory Pad – A mess-free gel pad with an attached stylus that lets kids trace uppercase and lowercase letters tactility

Whether you love Harry Potter, Pete the Cat, Pokémon, or another favorite character, we can't wait to see your creativity!

🏆 Contest Categories:
🎃 Children: Ages 5–11
🎃 Teens: Ages 12–17
🎃 Adults: Ages 18 & up
📅 Entry Deadline: Friday, October 16, 2026
📍 Drop-Off Location: Crestview Public Library

⏰ All pumpkin entries must be dropped off by library closing time on October 16!

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Real pumpkins CANNOT be carved or cut open, as we will be unable to display them. Painted and decorated pumpkins are welcome!

✨ All ages are encouraged to participate! Show off your artistic talents, celebrate your favorite stories, and help us fill the library with storybook-inspired pumpkins!

A FEMA Multi-Agency Resource Center is set up at Crestview Community Center.
They will be open today, Wednesday, October 14 from 1pm-7pm and open 7am-7pm Thursday, October 15 to Saturday, October 24.
Recovery sources include financial assistance, volunteer resources, and more. Please bring identification, proof of residence and insurance information and any other documentation related to your disaster-related losses to ensure you receive the appropriate assistance.

We are so excited to show off our newest arrival at the library! We just got in a fantastic American Sign Language learning kit, and we filmed a quick unboxing video so you can see all the cool stuff inside.

This kit is packed with great hands-on tools for all ages, including:

Wooden alphabet blocks with signs and letters

Illustrated flash cards with clear descriptions

A sign language bingo game for family game night

2 wonderful children's books on ASL

🌀 Hurricane Isaias Resources & Information 🌀

As we move into the recovery phase after Hurricane Isaias, multiple groups are coming in to assist our residents.

Starting today, Tuesday, October 13, the Georgia Baptist Mission Board's Disaster Relief team is stationed at Live Oak Baptist Church. If you are a homeowner in need of assistance clearing trees from your property or putting tarps on your roof, you can reach out to the team at (678) 899-9479.

Starting tomorrow, FEMA will open a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) at the Crestview Community Center, located at 1446 Commerce Drive. MARCs support several government and non-governmental agencies with public-facing resources to support recovery needs. These include financial assistance, volunteer resources, potentially tarps / muck outs and more. Resources will be available starting Wednesday, October 14 from 1 pm-7 pm and 7 am-7 pm from Thursday, October 15 to Saturday, October 24.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14, the Center for Independent Living of Northwest Florida will be on hand at the Crestview Community Center from 10 am - 2 pm. This organization focused on residents with disabilities. They will be able to assist these residents who might have been injured or have equipment issues following the storm.

Last week, local teens joined us at the Crestview Public Library for our "How to Defend Yourself" workshop. We want to send a huge thank you to Atlas Martial Arts for coming out and leading such an engaging and practical class. The instructions gave our participants real confidence, practical situational awareness, and valuable safety tools. Check out some photos from the event below.

Our Life Skills series continues next month with a focus on fire safety and home emergency preparedness. The Crestview Fire Department will present "How to Prevent Fires," walking our participants through practical steps to stay safe and avoid hazards.

If you’re traveling through Crestview today, pay close attention to conditions near the Shoal River bridge. The river is forecasted to peak at 14.9 feet around 7 p.m., with moderate flooding expected.
Other areas were watching:
• Blackwater River near Baker: Minor flooding expected, with a peak of 14 feet around 7 a.m.
• Yellow River at Milligan: Forecast to reach action stage at 9 feet around 7 p.m.
• Shoal River near Mossy Head and County Road 1087: Peaked at 22.49 feet Saturday morning and is receding, but major flooding remains a concern.
If you come across a flooded road, please turn around. Follow posted closures and allow extra time if you need to take another route.

The North Okaloosa Point of Distribution location will be at 1445 Commerce Dr, Crestview, FL 32539 at the Crestview Public Library from 1-5p.m. TODAY, Sunday, October 11.
This POD is for North Okaloosa residents. Water, MRE meals, and roof tarps will be available. We have limited supplies, so only those without power and those in need should secure these supplies.
South Okaloosa County residents are encouraged to utilize the stores that have reopened since the passing of the storm.

Okaloosa County will be opening a Point of Distribution (POD) from 1-5 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, in north Okaloosa County. A location will be announced shortly. Bottles of water, tarps and Meals-Ready-To-Eat MREs will be available.

This POD is for North Okaloosa residents. South Okaloosa County residents are encouraged to utilize the stores that have reopened since the passing of the storm.
