Our campout may be over, but over the coming days, we'll share our campers personal reasons for joining us, how they felt, and what they learned while standing in solidarity with our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
I participated in this campout because, as Executive Director, I have a platform to elevate the voices and challenges of those experiencing homelessness. This experience provided firsthand perspective to share with funders, legislators, and advocates. While public attention often focuses on high-level concerns like cold weather, critical daily logistics- such as charging mobile devices, storing medication safely, and accessing restrooms- are often overlooked. -Marlene
I camped with Mae because I think it's important to show solidarity with those experiencing homelessness. This staged campout raised awareness, which is crucial because the voices of people living an unhoused reality often fall on deaf ears among a general public that can’t—or won’t—relate to them. Now we can better advocate with empathy. By sleeping out, we were able to draw attention to the topic of unsheltered people, and also collect donations for our center, the pantry, and hot meals. -Allison
There's still time to show your support during our October Campout Sponsorship Period.
