Alliance Health's Consumer and Family Advisory Committee (CFAC) is hosting a series of community town halls to discuss NC Medicaid updates, hear from community members, and explore ways to strengthen services for individuals and families.

These conversations are an opportunity to ask questions, share your experiences, and make sure community voices are part of the discussion.

November 4 – Virtual
November 10 – Morrisville
December 8 – Smithfield

⏰ All sessions take place from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

At Smithville Community Coalition, we believe informed and engaged communities are stronger communities. We encourage residents and families to take advantage of these opportunities to be heard.

🏡 A Little Progress. A Lot of History. ❤️

October has brought some exciting changes to The Nelson House!

From exterior painting to repairs and restoration work, we're seeing this historic home continue to transform right before our eyes. Each improvement brings us another step closer to giving this important piece of Smithville's history a new chapter.

But this project is about so much more than restoring a house.

The Nelson House represents the people, stories, and generations that helped build the Smithville community. Preserving it means honoring that legacy while creating a place that will continue serving our neighborhood for years to come.

Healing is not a straight line, and no one should have to navigate the difficult moments alone.
Safe Alliance is beginning a new Seeking Safety Support Group on October 19th, offering a welcoming, supportive space for individuals of all genders who have experienced sexual trauma or domestic violence at any point in their lives.
Whether your experience happened recently or many years ago, your feelings matter, your experiences matter, and support is available when you're ready. ❤️
This virtual support group will explore important topics such as coping with trauma and triggers, understanding emotions, establishing healthy boundaries, building self-esteem, practicing self-care, and developing positive affirmations.

The Historic Nelson House is more than a building — it is part of Smithville’s story. ❤️
Work continues on the restoration of this important piece of Historic Smithville, and every step forward brings us closer to creating a permanent home for Smithville Community Coalition, a space for community programming, and a place where Smithville’s history can be preserved and shared for generations to come.
These photos show the work in progress — the repairs, the restoration, and the care being poured into protecting something that matters deeply to this community.
Preservation takes time. It takes resources. And it takes people who understand that once history is lost, it cannot simply be replaced.
The Nelson House is part of the larger Smithville Legacy Project, created to honor the people, places and stories that helped shape this community while building something meaningful for its future.
We are proud of the progress, grateful for the support, and excited for what this home will become.

For many families, the cost of childcare can be a significant financial burden. The Ada Jenkins Center offers childcare financial assistance to help eligible families with these expenses, including summer camp!
This is an important resource for families in our community, and we want to help spread the word! ❤️
✅ Eligibility Criteria:
- Household income between 0–80% of Area Median Income (AMI)
- Must live in Mecklenburg County, excluding the City of Charlotte
- Childcare providers must be ADA compliant
- Assistance may include childcare and summer camp expenses
