What looks like a breathtaking sunrise in one of these pictures is actually the devastating aftermath of bombs hitting someone's hometown, a harsh reality most of us have never faced and hopefully never will.
The family who took this photo were forced to flee under extreme and unimaginable circumstances…
“We are a family from Ukraine. In the first minutes of the war, we went to our parents' village. And after a couple of hours we were trapped. All the bridges were blown up and the village was surrounded by rivers and we couldn't get out. For a whole month we lived surrounded by the Russian army. Food was running out, half a piece of bread was given per person for 3 days. Constant shelling, explosions. We lived for almost a month in a damp and cold basement. The children were in a terrible panic that we would all be killed. Russian soldiers went around the village taking food, shooting at houses. They burned down the bakery where they baked bread for the whole village. We decided that we should try to save ourselves. We got into a boat and swam across the river, then walked 10 kilometers through the field. We got out under shelling, but we had no strength to stay in the village. When we decided to leave, our town was very badly destroyed. When we got out of the occupation, we went to Portugal as a family. Our son was born there. After learning about the you four you program, we decided to take a chance and come to America. Our whole family loves our country, and if it were not for the war we would live in Ukraine. But now in Ukraine we do not have a home, our children do not have a full-fledged happy childhood and future. And in America, children can get a good education and a happy childhood. And my husband and I will be able to find a good job. Thank you so much for the chance that our family had and we are now in America.”
This family is now in our hometown, rebuilding the life that was taken from them. They’ve settled into Huntersville, NC, and need some help getting on their feet. We’re helping to take care of most basic necessities they don’t have through the support of our family, donors, and the US 4 Them community. If you would like a direct donation to their family, please feel free to reach out.
In the spirit of patriotism and under the banner of freedom we open our hearts to those seeking refuge due to the horrors of war. Please pray for this family as they begin their journey on our great nation.
