Buddy Caldwell NMHS Legacy Fund

Buddy Caldwell NMHS Legacy Fund Buddy Caldwell graduated from North in 1967 and was a member of the 1966 State Championship Team. Now we want to share that with you.

The Buddy Caldwell Legacy Fund is a nonprofit fund created in memory of Buddy Caldwell and is dedicated to updating and improving the baseball facilities at North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville, NC. He went on the play football and baseball at the University of South Carolina and even played a few years of Minor League baseball. After baseball, he returned to the Huntersville area with hi

s wife, Judy, where they raised 3 children. Buddy played an important role in running the annual golf tournament that raised funds for the Athletic Booster Club. He loved North and remained close to his former teammates and coaches. On the morning of Christmas, 2018, we told Dad we would replace the batting cage at North Meck in his name. His voice was weak, but his eyes were shining as he responded, “That’s awesome!” After running into several roadblocks in that effort, we were presented with an opportunity for an indoor facility and we loved the idea. Those of you who are familiar with North Mecklenburg High School will remember the auto mechanic and industrial arts shops next to the old bus parking lot. Part of that building is being used by the athletic department for an impressive weight room. We will be transforming the rest of the building into an indoor training facility that can be used for all sports. With help from many of you, the Buddy Caldwell Legacy Fund has provided the baseball field with a new windscreen as well as additional funding for Phase 1 of this new training facility. Phase 1 will include installation of indoor turf and retractable netting for batting cages. Phase 2 will be to add additional equipment to benefit baseball and softball which was the original goal of the legacy fund. North will be the only school in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and maybe the state, with a fully functional indoor workout/training facility. The Legacy Fund is committed to begin Phase 2 with some basic items. David Casavecchia, North Meck’s Athletic Director, also wants to provide an opportunity for current and future student-athletes and their families to be involved in fund raising as we continue to improve this facility that will be the pride of ALL Viking athletes. Great things are happening at North Meck and we know Dad would be thrilled!!
