▶️Participants start with classroom instruction from CNF Ambassadors, then take learning to the lake with hands-on demonstrations. A special highlight is when the Cornelius Lake Patrol joins us on the dock, giving participants the opportunity to get on their boat and learn directly from local law enforcement.

Every seminar begins in the classroom. 📚

Before heading out onto Lake Norman, CNF Ambassadors lead classroom instruction that builds the foundation of boating knowledge. From safety rules and responsibilities to understanding how personal watercraft operate, these sessions prepare participants for the demonstrations that follow on the dock and on the water.

Learning the basics first helps the next generation of boaters stay confident and safe. 🚤

A float plan helps someone on shore know where you are and when to expect you back in case of an emergency on Lake Norman. 🚤

✔️ Who are you with? Let someone know who is on board.
✔️ Vessel description? Share the type, color, and registration of your boat or jet ski.
✔️ Departure location? Tell them where you’re launching from.
✔️ Planned route? Share the area of the lake you expect to travel.
✔️ Trip timeline? Include your departure and expected return time.

Participants ride on boats from Peninsula Yacht Club and Sea Tow while CNF Ambassadors demonstrate jet ski operation including No Wake Area procedures, steering control, and stopping distances on Lake Norman.

At the Calvin Newman Youth Boater Safety Seminars, learning moves from the classroom ➡️ to the dock ➡️ to the water.

After the classroom session, the group heads to the gas dock for a demonstration from Marina Manager Harry Smith on how to properly fuel a jet ski before getting out on the water. 🌊

We are here to prepare the next generation of safe boaters on Lake Norman.
