💚 BIG NEWS for Project Mentor! 💚

Last week, our very own Angela Rucker was honored with the 2026 Servant Leader Award at the Leadership Montgomery County Leadership Summit!

And we can’t think of anyone more deserving.

Nearly 20 years ago, Angela founded Project Mentor with a simple belief: every young person benefits from having a consistent adult who shows up, listens, and believes in them.

Today, that belief has grown into hundreds of mentoring relationships between community volunteers and CISD students. One lunch. One conversation. One week at a time. 💚

Project Mentor volunteer Amanda Van Dusen, who nominated Angela for the award, described her leadership as putting “service before recognition.” If you know Angela, you know just how fitting those words are.

Angela has spent nearly two decades creating opportunities for others to make a difference while quietly making an enormous difference herself.

Congratulations, Angela! We are incredibly proud to see you recognized for the impact you have made on our students, our mentors, and our community. 💚

🍔 Mentor lunches are back! ❤️

We loved seeing our mentors and students back together this week for our first lunches of the school year. Lots of smiles, hugs, catching up, and of course, lunch!

We even got to see a few of our own kids along the way. Angela got a lunch visit with her son, and Rachel got to spend some time with her nephews. ❤️

One lunch a week. One caring adult. So many meaningful connections.

Did you know Project Mentor is part of the Community Outreach, Conroe ISD team? ❤️

Before students came back, in between finding lunch times, planning trainings and getting ready for another year of mentoring, we got to spend an afternoon volunteering alongside our Community Outreach team at the Montgomery County Food Bank.

It was cold 🥶, it was fun, and we loved getting to serve our community together!

Wednesday brought a brand-new group of mentors to Project Mentor! ❤️💛

They even got the full Travis Intermediate experience with a bad weather drill during Safety Week 😂 and everyone rolled with it like pros!

Now we’re busy matching these awesome volunteers with students and getting ready for those first lunches. 🍟❤️

Project Mentor 2026–27 is officially served! 🍟❤️

We kicked off the year this morning with Chick-fil-A, time together, and an encouraging message from Mandy Benedix of Rooted Together, LLC about the difference one caring adult can make.

And we finally revealed this year’s theme… FAST FOOD! 🍔🍟🥤 Because mentoring may happen over lunch, but the connection made around that table can last a lifetime.

We’re so grateful for the incredible mentors who showed up this morning and who will keep showing up, one lunch at a time, all year long.

We’re back and excited for another year of Project Mentor! ❤️

In just one week, we’ll kick off a new year of mentoring with our amazing volunteers. Then, the week of August 24, mentors will begin meeting with students across Conroe ISD for weekly lunch visits.

Thank you to our mentors, campus partners, and community for making this program possible. Here’s to another year of changing lives, one lunch at a time.

Holly has been with Lashon since she was in 6th grade. At the time, Lashon didn’t have goals or any idea at all that success was possible for her. Holly had lunch with her, week after week, for 6 years, and next week, Lashon is headed to Sam Houston State University! 🎉👏🏼🙌🏼🎊

Holly’s friends have watched her journey and grown to love Lashon along the way. Today, they gave her a “Going to College” party, showering her with gifts and encouragement.

The influence a mentor can have on another is immeasurable. Project Mentor’s mission is to connect students with community members to foster meaningful relationships that promote positive youth development so that students can successfully navigate school and life.

In just two weeks, students across Conroe ISD will head back to school. While many are excited to see friends, some are still waiting for one meaningful relationship that could make all the difference.

As a Project Mentor, you’ll spend just one lunch each week with a student, sharing conversation, encouragement, and consistency.

You don’t have to be a teacher, counselor, or expert. You just have to show up.
