We had a great time on our industry tour today!

Stop 1: Shirley Feed & Seed - Matt Shirley met us as we got off the bus and went over a little bit of the history of their family business. We got a tour of the ins and outs of the store and the many products they specialize in and how they meet the needs of customers all over Northeast Georgia.

Stop 2: State Botanical Garden of Georgia - We had a self guided tour of just a portion of the gardens available to the public including their tropical collection. We saw and identified many plants in both the floriculture and floral design ID lists as well as lots of native wildlife.

Stop 3: Chick Fil A - Members enjoyed a meal which featured our state’s top commodity, broilers.

Stop 4: Northeast Georgia Livestock - FFA members were greeted by Todd Stephens, who is the owner-operator of NGL. He discussed how the barn works and the many ways they assist livestock producers from across the southeast. Members then took in the weekly sale and enjoyed hearing the live auctioneer.

Many, many thanks to Mr. Tommy Palmer for driving the bus and thanks to our hosts for taking time out of their day to meet with our members and discuss ag topics we only get a chance to see and read about in the classroom during the school year.

If you missed it today, we plan to make this a yearly event and we still have 9 spots available on the bus for next week’s trip to “Outdoor Night” at the Gwinnett Stripers game.

The last 2 days have brought in some stray animals after the storms. 🐾🌧️

Dogs and cats are continuing to come in scared, wet, muddy, and exhausted — and many are still waiting to see if their families come looking for them.

Please check your fences, garages, sheds, and neighborhoods for missing pets. If you recognize any of the animals posted, contact the shelter immediately.

And as always, if you are able to open your home to adopt, now is the time. Every kennel opened helps us continue helping the next animal that comes through our doors.

Microchips, tags, and secure fencing save lives. Please share to help these babies find their way home. ❤️
