Ohio's national officer candidate is Josie Jennings, 2024-2025 Ohio FFA Vice President at Large. She will be representing our state during the upcoming 99th National FFA Convention & Expo. Read more about Josie below.

Q: What was your home chapter, and who were your FFA Advisors?
A: I was a member of the Global Impact FFA Chapter. My FFA advisors were Collin Geirke, Rachel Sanders, Amy Henry, Shelby Guthrie, Trisha Seckel, Jese Shell, Olivia Pflaumer, and Meghan Prendergast.

Q: Where do you currently go to school, and what do you study?
A: I'm currently attending Oklahoma State University where I'm studying agribusiness and agricultural communications with a minor in agricultural real estate appraisal and ethical leadership. In the future, I'd like to work in farm transition planning.

Q: In what ways have your experiences in FFA changed your life?
A: The truth is, FFA was the first home away from home I ever experienced. We all search for a sense of belonging in one place or another, and the foundation of mentors, peers, and friendships the FFA organization brought into my life created an environment where I was welcomed in, and ultimately became like home. I'll never forget the daunting scene of my high school lunchroom during freshman year. In a room scattered with open seats, I still didn't feel like there was a space I was welcome to sit down. My FFA advisor may not even know it to this day, but his wide-open office door – the perfect escape from the high school cafeteria – was the beginning to the rest of an FFA journey founded on a purpose of pulling up a chair and welcoming others to my table. Good leaders welcome others in the door, but great leaders bring people home in a way that has nothing to do with where they’re from. FFA changed my life because it welcomed me in through the door, and it will leave me better when I walk out.

Is it fall already?! This warm weather has us reminiscing about how awesome this summer was! We spent 4 weeks at FFA camp with some of our new best friends and couldn’t have asked for a better group of members to hang out with. From learning to axe-throw and paddleboarding for the first time to living our best lives competing in water games, you guys really made sure to bring the energy and pushed us to get out of our comfort zones!

Just as the leaves change with time, so did all of you. Seeing the growth in the lives of students this past summer and getting to be there firsthand to witness it was astounding. FFA members, you not only changed your own lives this summer, but have greatly changed ours. You have shown us that anything is possible. That it is your mindset that determines the outcome of your time in the FFA. Members, you have shown that and have encouraged our team to live it. The happiest place on dirt is just a place without all of you there to fill it with the radiating joy and enthusiasm that you have!

Then, we had the opportunity to attend the annual State Officer Summit in Washington, D.C. While at summit, we learned the importance of advocacy and developed different strategies to effectively advocate. We then spent a day filled with visits on Capitol Hill, during which we met with legislators from our state. During our time with them we discussed the importance of FFA, Career Technical Education funding, and how we have seen these programs developing young people across our state. Finally, while in D.C., we were able to connect with other officers across the country and begin brainstorming different ideas on how to improve our programs and workshops.

We absolutely cannot wait to see where this year takes us! Can’t wait to see you all soon!
