We can’t let the day pass without giving honor to one who doesn’t care to be recognized but deserves all the recognition. The Baltimorean who has made columbus her home. She might be small in stature but mighty in creativity, leadership, and everything that matters. Please join us in wishing our favorite founder and leader Sheri “the boss” Neale a warm happy birthday. We love you Sheri.

Today we get to celebrate our CreativeNChief . Year after year Marshall stands tall for all things Black & Creative. We are fortunate to have him as a thought leader, artist and friend. Help us celebrate Marshall L. Jr. Shorts! Happy Birthday from your MAG family.🎊🎉🎂‼️

As Black History Month comes to a close and MAG reflects on our 10-year anniversary, we are reminded of the wealth of community and creativity we are fortunate to be part of. About five years ago, a conversation among creative minds led to gathering Columbus-based artists to recreate James Weldon Johnson's "Lift Every Voice and Sing" to commemorate this history. The result was a beautiful montage showcasing some of the city's best and brightest. We are grateful for this intergenerational wealth of talent we have and can't wait to share more memories this year.

"LIFT EVERY VOICE & SING"
James Weldon Johnson (writer)
John Weldon Johnson (composer)

Producer's Note by Cedric Easton
"When re-imagining this great work by the Johnson brothers, it was (and is) my intention to surround this beautiful melody with a synergetic gumbo that explores various expressions articulated by us, black people. The cornerstone of this arrangement is heavily steeped in our Black American rhythm and blues tradition. However, the arrangement includes various spices such as Afro Cuban percussion, Brazilian guitar and South African styled choral singing. It is my intention to respectfully engage the listener's previous and present sense of identity, belonging and tradition while equally challenging the listener to embrace an addendum to the aforementioned; and perhaps see (and/or hear) further. This is to say, we have come AND we are still coming..."

Fam! Not gonna lie. This giving Tuesday hits different, for many reasons. But first, can we bend your ear for a moment?

Culture isn’t a luxury.
It’s how we survive. It’s how we plan. It’s how we dream. It’s how we Maroon. When everything else is crumbling, culture is what holds us together. That’s why we need your help.

The Moment We’re In
Right now, arts organizations are fighting for survival. Nonprofits are struggling. We know everyone’s carrying something heavy.

But that’s exactly when we need each other most. That’s when we need spaces and sanctuary to create, to organize, to Maroon together.

In 2026, we’re launching a campaign to honor both milestones:
- 10 years of Maroon Arts Group answering the call.
- 100 years of the Pythian Theatre being space and sanctuary for Black cultural production.

Two Ways to Support Today
Whether you want to give right now or commit for the future, we’ve made it easy:

GIVE TODAY
Make your 2025 tax-deductible gift
→ [maroonartsgroup.com/support]
and
Commit to a PLEDGE FOR 10 x 10
Commit to supporting us in 2026
→ [ maroonartsgroup.com/10x10]

Every contribution, whether it’s a $10 donation today or a $1,000 pledge for 2026, brings us one step closer to establishing a lasting sanctuary for Black Cultural Production and Art in Columbus. On top of giving we are planning a host of events and opportunities to connect and build with us.

We are Maroon.
10 years of freedom dreams. 100 years of legacy. 100 more.
