Yaaiye - Mother in Fulani.
Adrienne Hood and Tamala Payne are the embodiment of yaaiye. These two warrior women carry a strength and tenacity that sometimes seems otherworldly.
Both have lost their sons, their princes, their heirs… to police brutality. Tamala lost Casey Goodson Jr in 2020, and Adrienne lost Henry Green in 2016. Yet these two show up and support other mothers and families who have suffered similar tragic losses.
While battling their own grief, fights for justice, and the hatred from LE and their worshippers, Ms. Adrienne and Ms. Tamala selflessly dedicate themselves to being supportive, affirming, and loving to all who may walk similar paths in life.
Adrienne, a retired US Air Force Master Sergeant, is taking the fight to our local government by running for city council. Tamala, still waiting for her day in court for Casey, hosts events and prayer for justice and to foster joy in such a hateful environment. She is there for other families as if they are her own.
These Black women have the weight of the entire world on their shoulders while still hurting for their lost sons. This is why as community, we must support and share our love with them.
Life and tragedy have proven the power of these two lionesses. But they deserve rest, healing, and softness. They deserve to no longer have to demonstrate their strength and ensure pain.
We see you Adrienne and Tamala.
We love you and we have your backs.
