Junipers, Junipers & More Junipers!

What a great day with Bryan Six of Oasis Bonsai at the Columbus Bonsai Society!

Our morning session was packed with trees and hands-on learning. Bryan worked individually with attendees and their junipers, offering thoughtful styling ideas, practical advice, and a clear artistic vision for how each tree could develop. He also shared excellent guidance on juniper care and development here in Ohio.

After lunch, Bryan continued with an afternoon juniper styling demonstration, walking us through his design decisions while sharing more practical tips on pruning, wiring, branch selection, long-term development, and keeping junipers healthy.

This program was part of the Columbus Bonsai Society’s Visiting Bonsai Artist Series, funded by the Greater Columbus Arts Council.

Thank you to Bryan for being so generous with his time and knowledge, and to everyone who brought trees, asked questions, helped out, and spent the day with us. Lots of people, lots of junipers, and lots of learning—we had a great time!

Upcoming at the Columbus Bonsai Society | Fall 2026 – Winter 2027

We have a great lineup of bonsai programs, visiting artists, workshops, community events and member gatherings ahead. Save the dates!

September 20 — Visiting Artist Bryan Six: Junipers
📍 Franklin Park Conservatory, Wells Barn
10am–1pm: Bring Your Own Tree workshop (register for this portion on the website)
2pm–5pm: Live demonstration — styling a juniper in progress

October 11 — Member Potluck & Sale
📍 Ohio Koi, Sunbury
2pm–5pm
Member potluck and member sale/auction.

October 25 — Chadwick Arboretum Fall Color Tour & Open House
📍 Arboretum North & 4-H Building
1pm–4pm
Ryan Huston of In Vivo Bonsai will host a bonsai workshop. CBS will have an information table during the event, and volunteers are needed to help represent the club.

November 18 — Winter Prep & Seasonal Care
📍 Dublin Public Library
1pm–4:30pm
Discussion on winter preparation and seasonal care to help get your bonsai ready for the months ahead.

December — CBS Holiday Gathering & Member Sale 🎄

January 17 — Visiting Artist Joe Chirco
The Bonsai Experience: How Bonsai Became Living Art

We want to see what’s growing on your bench!

Show us a tree you’ve been working on this summer. Maybe it exploded with growth, surprised you, struggled a little, or is finally starting to look like the tree you imagined.

What a great August meeting for the Columbus Bonsai Society! 🌳
Despite the rainy weather, we had a fantastic turnout today, lots of people, lots of trees, and plenty of bonsai work happening throughout the meeting.

A special thank-you to Ted Persing for sharing his journey into bonsai, what he has been able to accomplish in less than a year, and his perspective on the bonsai community that has helped him along the way. It was a great reminder of how much can be learned—and how quickly we can grow—when we share knowledge, trees, and enthusiasm with one another.

Thank you to everyone who brought trees, worked on material, shared ideas, and helped make today such an enjoyable program.

Our September meeting will be part of the Columbus Bonsai Society Visiting Artist Series, supported by the Greater Columbus Arts Council.
We’ll welcome bonsai artist Bryan Six for a program focused on junipers.
