Twenty years. One proven model.

Today, districts around the country come to learn from the model we’ve built over the past 20 years. We didn't plan for that when we started. We just kept showing up for kids who needed somewhere to land.

Twenty years in, we're not slowing down.

July is a quiet month on the school calendar, so we want to use it to say something we do not say enough. Thank you.

Thank you to the supporters who fund this work, the educators who carry it, and the families who trust us with their children. Halfway through 2026, every bit of progress our students have made traces back to people who decided this mission was worth their time and generosity.

The new school year is coming, and because of you, we are ready for it.

When a student arrives at school without English, people often assume they will spend years catching up. Here is what actually happens when the right structure is in place.

In our district partnerships, 89% of multilingual learners reach grade level within three years. That is not luck. It is concentrated instruction, trained educators, and a school community that expects students to succeed.

Every one of those students started somewhere hard. The structure met them there.

Teachers spend a surprising amount of their summer getting ready for August. For educators with multilingual classrooms, that preparation carries an extra question: how do I reach the students who are still learning English while teaching everyone else?

Fugees Family professional development was built to answer that question. It gives educators practical strategies they can use from the first week of school, developed over two decades of working with English language learners.

Educators, your summer prep matters. Districts, this is the season to invest in it.

In a few weeks, hallways across the country fill up again. For most students, the first day of school is exciting. For a student who is new to this country and still learning English, it can be the hardest day of the year.

The difference between a hard first day and a hopeful one is a school that is ready. That means teachers who know how to reach multilingual learners, classmates who make room, and a plan in place instead of a scramble.

That readiness is what Fugees Family helps schools build.

Some numbers speak for themselves. 100% of Fugees Family graduates have been accepted to college.

Behind that number are students who arrived in a new country, learned a new language, and adjusted to unfamiliar schools while carrying more than most of us can imagine. They did the work. Their teachers, families, and community stood behind them the whole way.

College acceptance is not the end of their story. It is proof of what students can accomplish when a program is built around their success.

Learning English is one part of a much bigger picture.

A student who is worried about their family's stability cannot focus in class. That is why Fugees Family works beyond the classroom too, with support that includes citizenship pathways, legal navigation, and help for families finding their footing.

Educational justice means meeting students where they are and clearing the obstacles in front of them.

This is the work. Thank you for being part of the community that makes it possible.

Teachers want to do right by every student who walks through their door, including the ones still learning English.

A recent Education Week survey of teachers who work with English language learners asked what they need most. The answer at the top of the list was more professional training.

That is exactly what Fugees Family builds. Our professional development is made for educators teaching multilingual classrooms, and recent sessions have drawn more than a thousand teachers.

When teachers are supported, students learn. It is that direct.
Educators, we see you. Districts, let's talk.

A child arrives at school speaking little or no English. What happens next matters for the rest of their education.

Our Teranga program is a full English immersion model built around one goal: helping students reach grade-level proficiency. It runs as a three-year partnership inside a school district. We carry the most intensive work, and at the end, the district takes the program forward.

It is structured, it is proven, and it is designed to make the whole school stronger, not just one group of students.

Twenty years ago, a wrong turn changed everything.

Our founder was driving to a grocery store on a hard day when she pulled into the wrong parking lot. There she found a group of immigrant and refugee children playing soccer on a dirt field, using rocks for goals. She had a soccer ball in her car and a childhood spent playing the game, so she asked to join.

She came back the next day. And the next. Soon she was helping with homework, then stepping in as a liaison when the children needed someone at school who would advocate for them.

When the kids entered a soccer tournament, they needed a team name. They were refugees, so they called themselves the Fugees.

That team became a school in a church basement. That school became Fugees Family. Two decades later, we are still doing the same work, making sure immigrant and refugee students get a real education and a fair shot.

This is where we started. Follow along this month as we share where we are headed.
