Explore the intersection of landscape architecture, planning, ecology, and architecture at Parkitecture: Autumn Edition at the North Chagrin Nature Center. This unique program examines how park landscapes, structures, ponds, and trails can be understood through a transect connecting suburban edge, forest, and river valley environments.

Hear from Cleveland Metroparks architect Ryan Denker, planner Kelly Coffman, landscape architect Chris Cheraso, and naturalist Amber Walden as they discuss the planning and design of the Nature Center, ongoing facility updates, and the ecological function of its pond-and-marsh system. The afternoon concludes with a naturalist-led outdoor tour focused on bats as an indicator species and their influence on the site’s design.

In collaboration with the Cleveland AIA, Ohio ASLA is pleased to help share this opportunity for interdisciplinary learning and networking.

Congratulations to Kelly Bassett Coffman, ASLA, on her elevation to the Council of Fellows of the American Society of Landscape Architects!
A former Ohio ASLA Chapter President in 2006, Kelly has spent more than 36 years advancing equitable access to parks, resilient landscapes, and the public realm across the Midwest. As Principal Planner for Cleveland Metroparks, she is leading a $450 million vision to complete the historic Emerald Necklace—a 25,400-acre regional park system serving more than 1.25 million residents. From spearheading the CHEERS resilience strategy for enabling Lake Erie waterfront access to transformative brownfield-to-park projects, Kelly has consistently shown how landscape architecture can strengthen communities, expand opportunity, and build climate resilience. Kelly’s leadership, mentorship, and commitment to elevating the profession have made a lasting impact on Northeast Ohio and far beyond.
