Foothills Humane Society (FHS) is a private non-profit, 501c3 animal welfare organization located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Polk County, North Carolina. Eleven acres was generously donated to Foothills in the 1980’s and the facility we currently use today was built in 1989. Thanks to the support of our community, Foothills now employs a dedicated staff to manage the facility

and its residents. The Board of Directors voted to become a no-kill shelter in 2010. In addition to our successful adoptions and rescue programs, we offer many volunteer opportunities, public training classes, training and behavior assistance for our shelter dogs and boast an average 94% live-release rate, meaning that approximately 97% of our animals are adopted into loving homes or transferred to reputable rescue organizations.

Our shelves are running critically low on canned kitten and cat food, and we could really use your help.

Canned food is a daily necessity for many of the cats and kittens in our care, especially the little ones. Every can donated helps keep full bellies happy while they wait for their forever homes.

🐾 We're Hiring Kennel Attendants! 🐾

Love dogs? We'd love to meet you. We're looking for compassionate, hardworking people to join our kennel team and help provide outstanding care for the dogs at our shelter.

This is a full-time position caring for the dogs at Foothills Humane Society. As a kennel attendant, you'll help provide the daily care they depend on, including:

🐶 Feeding and watering
🧹 Cleaning and sanitizing kennels
🐾 Walking dogs and providing enrichment and playtime
👀 Monitoring behavior and health
📝 Recording observations to help our team provide the best possible care

Because our dogs depend on us every day, our shelter is staffed 365 days a year. Open availability, including weekends, is a plus.

💲 Starting pay: $14.50/hour

Thanks to support from the ASPCA's The Rescue Effect campaign, the savings continue TODAY!

🐾 Adoption fees are waived from 1:00pm–4:30pm today on all dogs, cats, kittens, and most puppies.
