Elder's Meditation of the Day—October 5

"The dances are prayers."

—Pop Chalee, TAOS PUEBLO

When we dance to the drum we pray to the Creator and align with the heartbeat of Mother Earth. We never dance without reason. Every dance has a purpose. We dance for the rain. We dance for healing. We dance for the different seasons. We dance for joy. We dance for our children. We dance for the People. We dance for courage. We dance for all of life. The drum sounds to the beat of the heart, and to the rhythm of Mother Earth. It connects us to Her while we dance our prayers.

Great One, help us to dance strong… hear our prayers.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day—September 27

“I received my education from my culture. My teachers were my grandmothers, and I am really thankful for that.”

—Mary One Spot, TSUUT’INA

Our often unrecognized, but most powerful teachers are our elders. In order for us to learn a balanced way of life, we need to learn from both our men elders and our women elders. Learning from our elders will give us a set of values and insights to life. When we have life problems, we need to go to the ones who have lived life to get their advice.

Great Mystery, teach me to respect and honor the grandfathers and grandmothers.

Elder's Meditation of the Day—September 20

"You will only get back what you give out."

—Joe Coyhis, STOCKBRIDGE-MUNSEE MOHICAN

The Great Spirit created a system of balance and order. Through this law, if you treat others with respect, you will be treated with respect. If you gossip about no one, no one will gossip about you. If you are fair in all of your dealings, you can expect the same. If you share with others, others will share with you. If you judge others, others will judge you. You will always get back what you give out. The original teaching talks about being a giving person. A giving person will constantly be on the receiving end.

Creator, help me to be a giving person today. Let me honor and respect the meaning of what it means to be a good helper in this world.

Elder's Meditation of the Day—September 12

"If you get troubled, go and sit by the river. The flowing water will take your troubles away."

—Joe Coyhis, STOCKBRIDGE-MUNSEE MOHICAN

Sometimes we get mixed up and we don't know what to do in life. Go to the river or creek. Take your to***co offering. Sit there and be still. Talk to the water, say your prayer, offer to***co, and let the healing water take your problems downstream. Once you release, be sure to give thanks.

Great Spirit, heal my mind, body, and spirit today. Guide me to the light of balance and harmony.
