The world is bleak. Come do something weird with us.

Not because weirdness fixes everything. Not because joy means we aren’t paying attention. And definitely not because anyone needs another pastel infographic telling them to “choose happiness.”

We are all already painfully informed.

We know the headlines. We know the threats. We know how much is broken. But there is no prize for being the most exhausted person in the resistance, and doomscrolling is not a moral obligation.

Burnout does not make us more informed. It does not make us more useful. And a community with no time, energy, curiosity, or hope left has a much harder time building anything better.

So yes, we make room for serious work: mutual aid. Education. Harm reduction. Support.

And we also make room for play, art, strange themes, ridiculous ideas, dancing, games, creativity, new friends, and actual fu***ng fun.

Because community care is not only about giving people somewhere to go when something terrible happens. We want more reasons to gather because something delightful also happens too!

The work is serious. That doesn’t mean we have to be.

Every song is performed live, the traditional theater setup is out the window, and the performance can take place on the main stage, a second stage, or right there in the crowd.

It's a night for people who love a little spectacle, a little unpredictability, and seeing familiar material transformed by a live cast.

How do we address exploitation and gender-based violence while respecting the dignity, safety, and agency of the people affected?

How do criminalization and surveillance shape the lives of migrant women involved in swork/trades? And how do those conditions affect access to care and support?

These are complicated questions, and they deserve more than assumptions or easy answers.

Together, we'll explore how structural conditions shape lived experiences and what these realities mean for the way we think about safety, services, and support.

You don't have to be an expert or a sworker to join this conversation. You just have to be willing to engage thoughtfully with a subject that affects real people's lives.

On October 30th, Scarlette Two-Face Presents: BJ Unauthorized! brings Beetlejuice the Musical to Wicked Eden for an experimental live variety show that takes you from beginning to end, with every song performed live.

Forget the traditional theater setup. The audience surrounds the performance space, with entertainers moving between the main stage, a second stage, and the crowd itself. The entire experience unfolds around you, creating a night of live music, theater, variety, and a whole lot of beautiful chaos.

And whether you're a longtime Beetlejuice fan or simply someone who loves seeing creative people do something unexpected, there's a place for you in the audience.

Good intentions don't automatically make good support 💜

When someone reaches out for help, their experience is shaped by more than the service sitting in front of them. Stigma, immigration-related vulnerabilities, criminalization, and surveillance can all influence whether support feels accessible or safe.

For people working in swork, these conditions can affect everyday well-being and access to care in ways that service providers and community members need to understand.

How do we build services that respond to people's actual circumstances instead of making assumptions about what they need?

How do we support safety and well-being without adding more barriers?

Dr. Ran Hu, Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University College of Social Work, brings research and practice experience to this conversation about the lived realities of migrant women in swork/trades.

Whether you work in social services, volunteer in your community, provide healthcare, or simply want to become a more thoughtful source of support, this is an opportunity to listen, learn, and reflect.

Because accessible support starts with understanding the barriers people are navigating.
