The heart of our Compassionate Community is connection, just over a week ago we saw what can happen when you put nearly 90 grieving women in a room and my friends, it was powerful. Stay tuned for more highlights from our Bereaved Mother's Day Brunch and how you can be involved in 2027.

Help us continue our vision to ensure no one has to navigate this journey alone by joining our Monthly Giving Drive from now until May 15th. During this time, for every new monthly giving donor over $5/month - our donor platform GiveButter will donate an additional $10!

When a lot of people do a little - it makes a BIG impact.

Funds raised allow us to continue Companion Support, providing one-on-one support for those experiencing miscarriage, pregnancy loss, and infant loss - at no cost. Our goal has always been to remove barriers for support and rally around families in compassionate community.

Thank you for your support đź©·

Welcome back and welcome first time sponsors and we're so honored to have you here.

Sonder Psychotherapy's Sarah O’Donnell, LISW, PMH-C is trained and certified by Postpartum Support International as a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Clinician, and is listed in their provider directory of specialists in this area. She is also a member of the Ohio Collaborative for Perinatal Mental Health which works in conjunction with the POEM (Perinatal Outreach and Encouragement for Moms) Program of Mental Health America Ohio.

Modern Motherhood Therapy's Ashley Germann LISW-S, PMH-C is a licensed social worker in Ohio providing psychotherapy to moms and birthing persons. Maybe you have experienced multiple losses on the journey to grow your family or maybe you are three failed IUIs in and are wondering how you are going to navigate your next steps or are struggling to figure out what you even want to do next. Fertility journeys are a rollercoaster of hope, disappointment and uncertainty and you don’t have to face that journey alone.

Emily Combes, Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW-S) and founder of Maternal Wellness Counseling. Maternal Wellness Counseling was created for women who feel stuck in their motherhood story—anxious, overwhelmed, or carrying pain from a birth or postpartum experience that didn’t go as planned.

Through EMDR therapy for postpartum healing and perinatal trauma, I help mothers process what they’ve been through, reconnect with themselves, and begin moving forward with greater confidence and self-compassion.

Thank you Sarah, Ashley, and Emily for coming together as a Table Sponsor for our third annual Bereaved Mother's Day Brunch.

International Bereaved Mother's Day, the first Sunday of May, honors mothers who have lost a child. It's also a day to recognize women who cannot be a mother due to infertility or other health reasons. As of today, we have 92 registered to attend our Brunch, if you would like to snag one of the last FOUR seats, please RSVP at https://givebutter.com/SzNRRE or link in IG bio.

Welcome Jake Ross, MSW, LISW-S, LCSW to Let the Light In’s newly formed Advisory Board!

Jake is a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Ohio with more than fifteen years of experience supporting individuals and families through trauma, grief, and major life transitions. He is the founder of The Ross Wellness Group, a practice dedicated to helping people better understand themselves, their stories, and the emotional weight they carry, so they can move forward with greater clarity, connection, and resilience.

Jake’s work is shaped not only by his professional background, but by lived experience. Alongside his clinical career, he and his family have navigated the profound loss of pregnancy. This was an experience that deepened his understanding of invisible grief, identity disruption, and the quiet ways loss reshapes families. This personal chapter informs his approach with clients and communities: grounded, compassionate, and attentive to the realities people carry long after the world expects them to be “okay.”

Jake earned his Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Marshall University and his Master of Social Work from Concord University, where his training focused on rural Appalachia and the unique challenges faced by families with limited access to care. His professional experience includes child welfare, trauma-informed practice, clinical leadership, and direct therapeutic work with adults navigating grief, stress, parenthood, and complex emotional landscapes.

Through The Ross Wellness Group, Jake works primarily with adults—particularly parents and caregivers—who are seeking space to process loss, rebuild meaning, and develop practical tools for emotional regulation and relational health. His work emphasizes honesty, presence, and the belief that healing is less about fixing what’s broken and more about learning how to carry what cannot be undone.

Welcome to our Compassionate Community Jake, we are honored to have you here!

I Was. Then I Wasn't. Continued.

I feel as though if you're here, you know many of our posts are an automatic trigger warning. This one is a bit intense too - but it is part of my story. April 13, 2018... This was my reality after finding out on April 9th a heartbeat wasn't detected.

-Kami, Founder & President

Friday: We had to be at the hospital at 6:50am. Our boys stayed with my parents. In preparation for my appointment I was asked to shower the night before and the morning of with Hibaclens, a strong antiseptic, from head to toe that would help prevent infection. It felt sterile and hard to process. I'm sorry baby. I repeated it over and over again in my head. Everyone at the hospital was great, one of the nurses whispered a quiet, "I've been here too." And others whispered, "I'm so sorry."

My doctor came in prior to and promised to take good care of me, eyes watery. Compassion. Beside manner and compassion. I am so grateful. I remember thinking as they wheeled me into the OR – this looks nothing like the OR in Grey's Anatomy, kind of looks like a basement. (Mayyyyyybe I watch too much Netflix...) And I was asleep. Then I was awake. The words that escaped my mouth when I first woke up were heartbreaking in a way that I will never forget, in a strange way both haunting and heart ache. "My baby is gone. I'm not pregnant anymore."

Tears streamed down my face as I caught my breath and almost as if it's ingrained in me, I snapped back to I'm supposed to be okay here... straight face. No more tears here. My husband came in then and we talked. He told me the doctor talked with him. "Did she tell you it's okay for us to try again?" I asked. "She did." "Can we try again?" "Yes." "Promise?" He held my hand. "Yes." Ahhh, the truth and courage that waking up from anesthesia brings out in us.

It’s always been in the plan to have full time office space, what that looked like, we weren’t really sure. But sometimes change and growth happen when you least expect it.

For the past 2-½ years, Let the Light In’s home has been at Be Well Collective. An incredible community of individual providers supporting families through life - many of which have become some of our biggest supporters and dearest friends.

This spring, we had an opportunity knock that we just couldn’t turn away from and we are honored to announce that Let the Light In is moving into a full time office in Grove City, Ohio. Kami, our Founder and President, along with several of our Board Members are residents of Grove City so when the opportunity came to put down solid roots, we unanimously decided to nurture it.

This will give us space to grow as well as more flexibility for in-person Companion Support Sessions. We will be sharing our office building with 1-2 additional providers and are currently preparing our spaces for a warm welcome 🤍.

We plan to continue with Be Well Collective as an affiliate member (I highly recommend this!) and the Be Well Collective Resale Benefiting Let the Light In will continue on with our Pop Up Sale through April and a big Resale coinciding with Be Well’s Back to School Bash in August.

We are so grateful to both communities and we’re really looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Want to know how you can help? We’re going to be fully moved in by April 15th, but there are some items we’re in need of for our new space which is twice the size of our current office! From furniture to day to day needs and even some items for our Brunch - See our link in bio for our Amazon Wishlist or here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1JCOP3CXIBN7Z?ref_=wl_share

It’s hard to believe it’s been 8 years since I first heard the words, "I'm sorry, I couldn’t detect a heartbeat."

In honor of my story, I’ve bookmarked “I Was. Then I Wasn’t.” in our link in bio and with the direct link below.

For now though… Here is an excerpt. Thank you Poppy, lighting the way for so many Mamas and families navigating the unimaginable 🤍

I was pregnant. Then I wasn’t. I was going to make chocolate chip cookies. You see, a co-worker had a tradition in her previous workplace, they would bring in chocolate chip cookies as a way to announce their pregnancy. I was going to make chocolate chip cookies.

Monday: I caught my breath as I stepped through the double doors. Dear Lord, please let my baby be okay. I had nothing to make me think otherwise except a quick pang of intuition that was gone as quickly as it was there. I walked in, I was early and waited on my husband. He was running behind and then was on a call. The ultrasound technician said, "Well if he misses this one, there will be more for him to see." He swept in just as she was getting ready. It was quiet. Too quiet. I noticed. My husband leaned in. "Are you sure of your dates?" She asked. "Yes. Positive." I answered. We had been trying and I had been tracking my cycle. I stared at the ceiling. She regained her silence. Then, as she spoke, my eyes welled. "I'm sorry, I couldn’t detect a heartbeat."

She left us in the room with a few other utterances as I leaned into my husband. A nurse came in and she was amazing. She had tears in her eyes for us and talked us through what to expect next with our options. She gave me a box of tissues, told me to take some time to think and process and promised to call me in the afternoon. Not without saying a soft, "Me too." My husband and I drove separate because of other obligations and after assuring him I was okay and taking some time. I drove straight to my mom’s and fell into her arms. I napped and the rest is a bit blurry. I later woke up, showered again and went to pick up my boys with a straight face.
