Thank you Delaney Ruth for interviewing CEO, Mario Basora for tonight's coverage on chronic absenteeism. As Mario shared, good habits start before children ever enter kindergarten. We are grateful to be part of a lasting solution that supports K-12 educators.

Leaders at Columbus City Schools said student attendance will remain a priority even after the district voted to eliminate nearly 300 jobs as part of millions of dollars in budget cuts.

Join us in welcoming the newest teammate, Rebecca Scheel! She brings over 12 years of experience in education, from the classroom to nonprofit, but equally important, she bring joy to our office AND to the children she serves each day in her roll as Kindergarten Readiness Collaborative Coordinator.

When asked why she chose to join the FR5 Team, Rebecca shared, "As a former kindergarten teacher, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of kindergarten readiness, and I am passionate about helping children build the skills and confidence needed for a strong start in school!"

Members of our team had an incredible time at the Ohio Early Childhood Conference in Sandusky, Ohio!

We participated in engaging and informative sessions that will continue to strengthen how we collaborate with educators, children and their families with greater purpose and impact. Every session reinforced our commitment to intentional, high-quality early childhood practices.

Today is El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), often known simply as Día. Founded by author Pat Mora in 1996, this national celebration honors children and fosters a love of reading by connecting them to diverse books, languages, and cultures. Families, schools, and libraries across the country celebrate the joy of multicultural stories today and every day.

At Future Ready Five, we’re proud to celebrate Día alongside one of our community partners: Columbus Metropolitan Library. Together, we help families build early literacy habits through storytimes, play based learning, parent resources, and access to books that reflect our community's rich diversity. Did you know the library has a special bilingual book section for early learners? There are books celebrating different languages, faiths, cultures, and foods from around the world. This month's Kindergarten Readiness Collaborative workshop theme centers around diversifying classroom texts, supporting multilingual learners, and bringing learning outside!

Teachers reflected on whether their student population reflected their literacy tools and received support on how to create more "windows and mirrors" for all students. Teachers also engaged in a STEM activity with worms that sparked curiosity, wonder, and joy.

We are so grateful for the Kindergarten Readiness Collaborative interventionists, who support students and centers with small group instruction. Sophie is working with a group of preschoolers at Les Petites Academy. Her students are engaged in the read aloud lesson and are excited to be learning from her!

Recently, the Future Ready Five team engaged in intentional professional development through “Coaching: Bringing Out the Best in Others,” a session from the Leadership Columbus’ Impact Lab.

These workshops provide free, high-quality professional development for nonprofit teams—helping organizations build stronger, mission-aligned teams, retain confident leaders at every level, and reduce burnout and turnover.
