Oliver Gospel Mission has been serving the Midlands community since 1888, making it the oldest rescue mission in the Southeast and 6th oldest in the United States. Oliver Gospel seeks to provide a Gospel-fueled, compassionate, and welcoming environment designed to instill both hope and opportunity for the purpose of life transformation.

Once living in her car with her children, Selena’s story is a powerful reminder that your circumstances today don’t have to define your tomorrow.

As a single mother, Selena faced difficult challenges while working to build a better future for her family. Through Toby’s Place, she found support and the opportunity to begin again. Today, post-graduation from our program, Selena and her children have stable housing, a steady income, and are truly thriving.

Selena’s journey is an example of the life-changing transformation that can happen when individuals and families have the support and resources they need to move forward. This is the kind of hope Oliver Gospel strives to make possible every day.

24 hours. Countless conversations. Two benches. And a whole lot of coffee.

What an incredible opportunity and experience it has been to take part in Conversations on a Bench. From the Mayor of Columbia to former and current Oliver Gospel residents, staff, ministry partners and volunteers, and many more, our Executive Director spent the last 24 hours on a bench outside in our courtyard, having conversations surrounding homelessness, addiction, and mental health with them.

A special thank you to Rosewood Community Church for partnering with us. This would not have been possible without them!

Thank you so much to everyone who took a seat on the bench, prayed for this event, and tuned in to the livestream. We’re so grateful. 💙

September is National Recovery Month. 💜

Recovery is possible, and no one should have to walk the journey alone. Every day at Oliver Gospel, especially this month, we’re celebrating the courage it takes to seek help and highlighting the resources available to those ready for a new beginning.

Watch as one of our Recovery Program staff members shares about addiction and the importance of recovery. We pray that every person struggling with addiction knows they are not defined by their addiction and that, through Christ, there is always hope for a new beginning.

The bench finally has a location… the OLIVER GOSPEL COURTYARD!

Our Executive Director, Kyle Harding, will be there for 24 hours on Oct. 8–9 as part of the nationwide initiative, Conversations on a Bench. We invite our community to slow down, take a seat, and have honest conversations about homelessness, addiction, mental health, and what it means to care for our neighbors.

So, Columbia, will we see you there?
