MCA Executive Vice President Mike Deering and MCA SEMO Grazing Coordinator Micah Hans traveled down to Patton, Mo., today to Besher Farms.

Charlie and Donnia hosted the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef Board of Directors and Working Group for a tour of their family farm. The Besher family have partnered with many different entities like Missouri Soil and Water Conservation Program, Natural Resources Conservation Service, University of Missouri and others to establish more than 200 acres of warm season grasses.

Day Two was cattle producer-focused! Students started the day with Poor Farms with Jason & Jenny Poor, then visited Clear Springs Ranch before wrapping up at Rolling Shoals Farm with Jeff & Andrea Reed.

Thank you to all who provided amazing, beef centered meals!

Students also heard from Sydney Long, MBIC Executive Director, about the beef checkoff and had the chance to ask questions.

Overall, great day. Tomorrow is the last day, stay tuned!

Day One ✅

The MJCA Youth Tour had a great first day in Southeast Missouri! We visited Missouri Biodiesel trailer at the MCA Office, SEMO Port Authority, and local farms to learn about rice production from Jordan Averett, and peanut/cotton production from Allen Below, with the processes behind each crop.

A great day of learning and experiencing Southeast Missouri agriculture firsthand. Can’t wait to see what day two brings!
