Welcome to our union-run page representing the St. Clair Shores Firefighters Union, Local 1744. This is not an offical city page. The St. Clair Shores.

We are a proud, professional Local serving the community of St. Clair Shores in both fire and EMS services. Clair Shores Fire Fighters Union - Local 1744 is an affiliate of the International Association of Fire Fighters and the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters. Established in December of 1967, it represents the professional firefighters who serve the City of St. Clair Shores, with the primary mission of helping to ensure safer work conditions for firefighters and provide better services for the citizens of St. As members, we are dedicated to the care and protection of our citizens in emergency situations as well as assisting people of special needs in and around our community. We will continue to be aggressive in advancing the services we provide.

Yesterday was a special day for your St. Clair Shores Firefighters as we celebrated two retirements and several promotions.

Please join us in congratulating Battalion Chiefs Keith Benando and Adam Bolan on their retirement. Their years of dedicated service to our community, our department, and Local 1744 have made a lasting impact. Thank you for your leadership and commitment throughout your careers. Enjoy retirement and the new beards - you’ve earned both!

In the aftermath of a tragedy, it is often hard to know what exactly to do. 25 years later, it can be equally as challenging to know how to honor the memory of those that lost their lives.

Today, as we reflect on what happened, we can try to honor the sacrifice of the 2,977 victims of 9/11 and more than 9,000 deaths from 9/11-related illness, by performing simple acts of kindness. It sounds elementary but as Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that.”

So if it strikes you as a day where you wish to do something to help remember the fallen, add a little love in the world. We all need it.

Our membership will be on duty today, as we always are, ready to serve when called.

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month.

At the firehouse, we’re taught to look out for one another—and that responsibility doesn’t end when the call is over.

Throughout the month, you may notice our personnel wearing awareness shirts in recognition of Su***de Prevention Awareness Month.

The semicolon (;) is a powerful symbol of su***de prevention and hope. In writing, it represents a point where a sentence could have ended, but the author chose to continue. It reminds us that even during our darkest moments, our story isn’t over yet.

The yellow rose symbolizes hope, friendship, remembrance, and support for those affected by su***de. Its bright color represents light during difficult times and serves as a reminder that no one has to face their struggles alone. During Su***de Prevention Month, it honors those we’ve lost while encouraging those still struggling to keep their story going.

We encourage everyone—our first responders and our community—to check in on one another, start the conversation, and remember that asking for help is a sign of strength.
