If you’re heading out on the water today to beat the heat, have fun and stay safe! If an emergency does happen, know your St. Clair Shores firefighters are always ready.

This month’s training focused on boat deployment and water rescue operations to ensure we can get on the water as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Our waterfront access and boating community is an important part of what makes this city so great! 🚤 🎣 We’re proud of the improvements we’ve made to our water rescue capabilities, and we’ll continue looking for ways to strengthen this important specialty of our department.

Early Thursday morning, members of the St. Clair Shores Fire Department were honored to pay tribute to U.S. Forest Service Firefighter Emily Barker during her final journey home. Emily, a Clinton Township native, was one of three firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while battling the Knowles Fire in Colorado on June 27. She served on the U.S. Forest Service R***e Helitack crew alongside fellow firefighters Nick Hutcherson and Sydney Watson, who also lost their lives in the line of duty.

The fire service is one family that extends far beyond city, county, and state lines. Whether protecting neighborhoods, responding to medical emergencies, or fighting wildfires in remote mountains, firefighters share the same commitment to serving others—often at great personal risk. Thursday’s procession was a powerful reminder that when one of us falls, we all pause to honor their sacrifice.

We extend our deepest condolences to Emily’s family, friends, and coworkers, as well as the families of Nick Hutcherson and Sydney Watson. May we never forget their courage, their service, and the legacy they leave behind. Rest easy, Emily.

Yesterday was an extremely busy day for the St. Clair Shores Fire Department. Our crews responded to 80 calls during the shift, most related to severe storm damage.

As the storms moved through, crews responded to three separate house fires. While all 3 ambulances were committed to medical calls and neighboring communities handling emergencies of their own, no mutual aid was available. That left just 6 firefighters and 1 Battalion Chief to manage the fires. Thanks to their coordinated response, all three fires were brought under control quickly.

A reminder to everyone: If you see a downed power line, stay away. Always assume it is energized, keep a safe distance, and report it immediately.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as recovery efforts continue and hope power is restored to all residents as soon as possible.
