Face Addiction Now

Face Addiction Now WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2007 as a grassroots organization, Face Addiction Now (FAN) is based in Macomb County, Michigan. Many are between the age of 18-25.

Face Addiction Now is a nonprofit guiding individuals, families, & communities affected by substance use disorder by coordinating care and reducing stigma, through a variety of programs & resources, at no cost, fostering a path towards healing & recovery. FAN’s membership includes parents affected by addiction, concerned citizens, law enforcement, judges, leaders in education, business, and religi

on, and people in recovery from a substance use disorder. FAN has expanded to more than 20 chapters throughout the state of Michigan. WHAT WE DO
We work tirelessly to raise awareness and educate communities about the dangers of prescription narcotics (e.g., Vicodin, Oxycontin, and Percocet), as well as other drugs. We also offer compassionate support and services to individuals and families affected by addiction. Our initiatives include Hope Not Handcuffs, the Comeback Quick Response Team post-overdose wellness check, and Stronger Together, a 12-step program for friends and family of those with a substance use disorder. (For information on all the programs FAN offers, visit our website at faceaddictionnow.org)

THE NEW FACE OF ADDICTION
Prescription drugs have become the “drug of choice” among young people aged 12-18. Most who misuse these drugs believe they are safer than illicit drugs because they are prescribed by health care professionals. Yet, prescription painkillers are every bit as addictive and deadly as heroin, when abused. Nearly 255 people die from drug overdoses every day in the United States. Thousands more are struggling or in recovery. These are good kids from good families. And it’s happening everywhere--no neighborhood is immune. Be informed. Knowledge saves lives. TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE
Join us in keeping our families and communities safe:
• Challenge doctors and dentists to prescribe non-narcotic painkillers for you and your family
• Safeguard narcotic painkillers and dispose of unused medications responsibly
• Talk to your children about the dangers of abusing prescription medications and heroin use
If you suspect a loved one is in trouble, seek help immediately.

In an overdose situation, every second matters.

Having the right tool—and knowing how to use it—can mean the difference between life and death.

Face Addiction Now's Overdose Response and Education Program is working to make sure more people are prepared.

Through free trainings—held in workplaces, schools, bars, community spaces, and online—participants learn how to recognize an overdose and administer naloxone (Narcan), a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. FAN also places no-cost Narcan dispensers in public locations, expanding access across the community.

The impact is real.

There's a place at Run Drugs Out of Town where people tend to slow down.

It's not the start line or the finish line—it's the "Why I Walk" wall.

Before the race begins, people stop to write something simple: a name, a reason, a few words that explain why they're there. Each message is placed under one of three sections—Remembrance, Recovery, or Support.

As the morning goes on, the wall begins to fill.

Names of loved ones. Messages of strength. Notes of encouragement. Sometimes even photos—faces that remind us why this day matters.

Some messages are just a few words. Others say everything.

And as you read them, you start to understand—you're not the only one carrying a story.

This isn't just a 5K. It's a place where people show up with purpose, share it, and see it reflected back in others.

This is what makes the day so meaningful.

There's a moment at Run Drugs Out of Town that's hard to put into words.

During the opening ceremony, hundreds of people stand shoulder to shoulder, each holding a small flag. And then we ask a simple question:

"Why are you here today?"

🧡If you're here in memory of someone you've lost, you raise an orange flag.
💚If you're here celebrating recovery, you raise a green flag.
💙If you're here to support someone you love, you raise a blue flag.

And suddenly, the crowd becomes a sea of orange, green, and blue—each flag representing a story, a person, a reason for showing up.

Some people hold their flag high. Others hold it close. Some with pride, others with quiet reflection. But every single one means something.

It's a powerful reminder that no one is alone—and that behind every step is a story that matters.

This is what you're part of when you show up.
