The Emergency Department Manager at McLaren Bay Region contacted us about the high quality care provided by EMTs Jaxson Flood and Autumn Mason:

"I wanted to recognize two members of the Medstar EMS crew — Jaxson Flood and Autumn Mason — for the outstanding professionalism and compassion they showed during a recent inter-facility transfer.

A mental health patient who had been petitioned was beginning to refuse treatment while still in the ER. Jaxson and Autumn remained patient, calm, and consistently reassuring as they worked with her. Their approach helped de-escalate the situation and allowed the transport to proceed safely for continued care at another facility approximately two hours away.

Their demeanor made a meaningful difference for a patient in crisis and reflected very well on Medstar. Please thank Jaxson and Autumn for the excellent care they provided."

A Heat Advisory has been issued for Southeast Michigan beginning at noon until 8PM this evening with heat indexes nearing 100 degrees. We are also at a Level 2 out of 5 slight risk for severe weather today. The primary concerns will be damaging wind gusts, hail, and localized flash flooding.

Please stay hydrated, stay out of the sun and in air-conditioning whenever possible. Wear light, loose-fitting clothing and check on elderly family members and neighbors. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The father of a family involved in an accident, wrote to us to praise the care he received from Paramedic Kevin McAlpine and EMT Brianna Champagne.

"There were 3 of us in our vehicle, I initially was refusing to go to the hospital (according to my wife at least) and was ultimately transported with my son. ALL THREE of our ambulance crews EACH time they transported someone new (another run) went out of their way to find each of our rooms and asked how we were doing personally.

They exhibited professionalism each and every time we had interactions with them, and the level of genuine caring towards us was not left unnoticed by my family. I would like to say we very much appreciated their dedication, knowledge and care that each and every ambulance crew that serviced us that night. Looking at the pictures of my truck that were taken by my wife at the scene and our only takeaway was that we were thankful to all staff, EMS police and fire, and that the graces of God and airbags kept us from being severely harmed and injured.

Thank you for providing the community with dedicated, caring and knowledgeable individuals with a willingness to show a human touch to an otherwise horrible situation,"

Mike Grimmer is the kind of employee every organization hopes to have. Mike consistently goes above and beyond, arriving early to prepare ambulances for events, stepping up without hesitation, and never saying "that's not my job." He's also a trusted resource for our newer employees, always willing to answer questions or help them find the right person when he may not have the answer himself. Mike's work ethic, selflessness, and commitment to his team embody what Medstar stands for. We are fortunate to have him on our team.
Thank you, Mike. Today, we proudly salute you!
