CLE Pups An initiative to help all dogs in Cleveland find loving homes and the care they need. Welcome to CLE Pups! We are glad you are here.

This is a volunteer effort run by residents and supported by Northwest Neighborhoods. Our goals are to increase the live release rate from the Cleveland Kennel by:

- Increasing the number of families reunited with their lost dogs.
- Increasing the number of dogs adopted from the Cleveland Kennel.
- Supporting partnering rescues and shelters so that they can pull more dogs from the Cleveland Ken

nel.
- Provide information about resources to community members who own pets and are struggling to care for them.
- Educate the public about the needs at the Cleveland Kennel. We know that our community is creative, compassionate and resourceful. The intention is to present information promptly and truthfully so that solutions can be found quickly and implemented efficiently. This page is not affiliated with staff or volunteers at the Cleveland Kennel or the City of Cleveland. It is a citizen-led volunteer initiative.

HELP IS NEEDED NOW! The Cleveland Kennel is full. Pups need to be picked up by their owners immediately. When the kennel is full, good, adoptable, healthy dogs loose their lives because there isn't space to hold them. They are legally required to hold all new intake for their stray hold in hopes that owners come and pick them up.

Not everyone is on social media, so you can also let anyone who has lost a pet to know they can check out www.clepups.com or visit the Cleveland Kennel to look for their missing dog.
These pups NEED TO GO BACK TO THEIR FAMILIES!

Space is limited. Adopters and rescue pulls are needed now.
Please share so that their families see this and reclaim them immediately. When the shelter is full, as it has been, and large numbers of dogs are impounded, lives are lost to make room for new intakes when owners don't come to claim them the adoption rates are slow.

We know that life is better with a Pittie, but due to housing, breed restrictions and other factors, if you can't have a Pittie, but still want a lifetime of rescue pup love, these dogs could all be prefect options for you!

These dogs are likely at the highest risk of being euthanized if/when the Cleveland Kennel runs out of space and new dogs come in. Please share them far and wide.

❤ Heartworm + (not contagious) which will be fatal if not treated, but Friends of City Dogs Cleveland will cover the cost of treatment if he is adopted and will sponsor him for $500 if a rescue pulls him.

Please follow CLE Pups for updates. We always pin the current list of dogs who are urgent at the Cleveland Kennel at the top of our page.

These are some of the pups at the Cleveland (Ohio) Kennel who may have the most limited time to find adopters or rescues if/when they run out of space due to high levels of intakes and are at risk of being euthanized. The Cleveland Kennel is full. Help is needed now. Time is not guaranteed for any dog or puppy. If you are interested in possibly adopting, fill out a meet and greet request form immediately.

They are an open intake shelter and do not have control over how many come in, but they have a limited number of kennels. They are legally required to take every stray found in the city and hold them in hopes that their owners come to pick them up.

The live release rate in 2024 was 73.9%. In 2025, through August, the live release rate was 74.3%. Only around 25% of the dogs impounded at the Cleveland Kennel ever have owners come to claim them. Help is certainly needed and urgency is real.

The live release rate is the percentage of dogs that leave a shelter/kennel alive and includes those returned to owners, adopted out or transferred to another rescue/shelter. The inverse of this is the percentage of dogs that are euthanized and die while in custody of a shelter/kennel.

Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter has an event on May 31st from 9a-11:30a where you can get your dog microchipped for free!
