Here’s a shout-out to “4.25”Rabunites for yesterday’s trout stream protection efforts. Kidd, Prosser, prez Jeff, Kellerman, and his trusty sidekick “Pie” spread seed and mulch on exposed soils along a Reed Creek road and campsite to reduce sediment delivery into the stream.

It’s part of an ongoing Rabunite partnership with our US Forest Service district staff to reduce erosion and protect stream buffers at several campsites in the Reed watershed.

Great job, boys. Waaah -Hooo!

Here we are again, and oh yes, we are grateful to experience another Appalachian Autumn.

We’ll be immersed in a tapestry of color — swimming, floating, rustling, drifting and flying all around us.

October makes us want to sit by a campfire, crunch through leaves, unpack our sweaters, maybe even have some of that pumpkin spice coffee that people love, or hate.

Mostly October makes us want to fish. To fling a dry fly on a cool morning, and see one of nature’s autumn-dappled river gems rise to meet us. Long cold days of winter are coming, but October is here and we will enjoy every single glorious day of it.

Fifteen Rabunites, a dedicated Mid-Ga TUer, and ten GA Tech 5 Rivers clubbers combined forces at Sarah’s Creek on Saturday.

Mission Accomplished!
The gang rolled rocks and pounded steel to rehab 25 old trout stream enhancement structures. Congrats to all of our fine volunteers! Their sweat equity will pay dividends in improved habitat for trout.

After their labor, many of the volunteers spent the afternoon chasing trout in local streams.

We had a big time last nite, tuning up our casts for the fall trouting season. Thanks to all members and guests who attended our third annual “Casting and Cold Cuts” event at Rabun County Park.

Next up: toting supplies for the agencies’ Chattooga River fish sampling (9/22) and our Sarah’s Creek stream improvement project (9/26).
