Our Rabunite clan would like to thank two special groups of friends, old and new, who contributed to Saturday’s successful kids fishing rodeo.

First are our old friends with the Foothills (Habersham) and Savannah River (Hartwell) TU chapters. The Foothillsbillies helped staff our lunch server line. The Savannah River bunch operated their traditional fish cleaning station for successful kids.

Our newest friends were the young ladies and young man who operated a lemonade stand. That was touching enough, but it was topped by their benevolence. Their momma said they loved the event and wanted to contribute to it. So they took their day’s profits and presented a twenty dollar bill to Rabun TU!

It doesn’t get any better than this: public service by everyone, young and old! We are proud to be Rabunites! Come and join in our fun and our service to the community and our clean, cold streams.

Wow, what a great Saturday on the Tallulah! Big thanks to more than a dozen Rabunites and chapter friends who volunteered to help the Forest Service with its annual kids fishing rodeo. We registered 150 kids, handed out goody bags and prizes to each of them, cooked hundreds of hot dogs, and served lunch to all kids and their families. Smiles were unlimited!

Special thanks to Rabunites Frank and Susan Patton, event leaders for our TU chapter. Job well done!

More great event pics and stories to come, so stay tuned. And join our chapter to get in on our fun.

At our May monthly meeting on the banks of the Chattooga, the Rabunites honored our outgoing newsletter editor, Pat Hopton, for his seven years of outstanding monthly fish tales, chapter news, and captivating photos.

We all chipped in for an appropriate thank-you gift and heartfelt note of appreciation. We hope that Shady Creek certificate will help you to stock up for your own great fishing memories to come. Thanks for your service to our chapter, Pat!

Rabun Chapter Spring Campout 2026 - by Past Prez Tammy

The Spring Campout is in the books! We had up to 19 folks come together in early May for fishing, eating or just shooting the breeze!

We had heavy rain for one day but it soon dried up. Fishing was good but the catching a little iffy. Lots of good conversations around the fire. Many great meals shared among new and long time friends!

We held our normal Saturday morning trash pick up at Burrell’s Ford. After a quick donut breakfast (Thanks to Jack), six of us worked a couple of hours to clear the area of any litter that might make its way into our beautiful river. Overall, another successful campout!

The Rabunites had a big time last night at our May monthly meeting. Old and new members and a guest or two gathered riverside for food, fellowship, and some fishing, too. One senior Rabunite wandered upriver at dusk to visit with dear old friends Doug, Tom, and Griz, still standing watch in their favorite spot, the Riffle Pool.

Big thanks to the Breithaupts for grocery shopping and to the Hoptons for cooking and serving our spread. Thanks to each attendee for adding to that supper bounty, too.

We sure live in a pretty corner of the world. It was great to take an evening out to enjoy Mother Nature’s gifts to us all!

Stay tuned for more Rabunite events. Members and guests welcome! Catch event previews in our newsletters, right here at:
