From our rockin' national partner, People's Action Institute:

The Trump administration wants to evict immigrant families from Public Housing and Section 8, and grow our national homeless crisis. Their plans threaten 80,000 people now, and could lead to over 200,000 people - including 37,000 children, most of whom are US citizens - being forced out on the streets!

But before they can implement this policy they must review every single public comment sent to HUD! They want to use A.I. to speed up the process. So we’re getting out our pens and paper to make sure real people, not computers, hear what we have to say! (First time ever your bad handwriting could be used for good!)

Join them online today, Thursday 4/2/26, at 4 PM EST for a short, fun, letter writing party to protect 10s of 1000s from becoming homeless!

REGISTER HERE NOW: https://peoplesaction.zoom.us/meeting/register/oqgbyapLRWGPRNl4abjJQg #/registration, -OR-
write a letter on your own. Get a pen (or pencil!) and paper! Put that sucker in an envelope, with a stamp, and mail it. Teach your kids what mailing is! Have a letter writing party with your family and friends.

Even if you are not a resident of public housing, and don’t receive any federal subsidy, you can send in a comment opposing this policy! Let the Trump administration know how you feel about pushing families into the streets!

All comments must be received by April 21st. Mail them to:
Regulations Division, Office of General Counsel, Department of Housing and Urban Development
451 7th Street SW, Room 10276

If your utilities are disconnected or at risk of disconnection, the Special Reconnect Order and Winter Crisis Program can help you reconnect or maintain your utility services, regardless of how much you may owe the utility company.

To enroll in the Special Reconnect Order (SRO), call Duke at 800.544.6900, tell them you’d like to use the Special Reconnect Order and pay a one-time $175 payment (plus a possible $36 reconnect fee). The SRO can be used only once.

If your income is below 175% of the federal poverty level, you can receive assistance with the $175 payment through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Winter Crisis Program (WCP). To apply for WCP, contact your county's energy assistance provider.

Learn more about the SRO and WCP, as well as the contact information for your energy assistance providers, via the link here:https://lascinti.org/wp-content/uploads/HG-08-Utility-Assistance.pdf

You can check whether you're below 175% of the federal poverty level via the link here:https://lascinti.org/wp-content/uploads/2026-Poverty-Guidelines-175-020326.pdf
