TeacherTip
Use this quote on Wisdom to help students understand perspective. Two students can look at the same thing but see or feel something completely different. Knowing this helps to understand your classmates better.
“It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.” Henry David Thoreau

The new Quality of the Month for June is Wisdom: Applying knowledge and experience to new situations.

In her essay, "Building a Foundation for Wise Choices," Mary Andres Russell describes an exercise in which all participants build a structure using blocks labeled with character qualities. Wisdom is always the last block placed. Read the full essay in the link to discover why Wisdom is the steady, hard‑won strength that grows from truth‑seeking and lived experience.

: Family Flexibility Challenge
Identify: A time recently when plans changed or something didn’t go the way someone hoped.
Explore: How did this make you feel?

Challenge: How could help us stay steady and kind when life throws us a little storm? How will that make us feel?
Results: Little shifts strengthen the whole family tree.

“Flexibility in a stem makes a tree stand in a storm. Flexibility in behavior makes a human win hearts.” — Anonymous

Play-Based Character Education
We have several classroom and family games for each of our 36 Character Qualities. We use games because research on game-based character education in grade school emphasizes that games are effective because they move moral concepts from abstract "rules" into concrete, experiential interactions. A primary evidence-based source for this is the study "I am a child, I learn through play; play-based character education" by Deger (2024), published in Frontiers in Psychology.
