OUR KINGS

OUR KINGS OUR KINGS is a nonprofit uplifting Black boys and young men ages 0–18.

Yesterday, our boys participated in the Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony with the County of San Diego.
Watching them stand in that space was powerful.

This moment was about more than raising a flag—it was about understanding the sacrifices, strength, and resilience of those who came before them. It was about helping them see that they come from a people who have overcome, persevered, and continue to make history every day.

At OUR KINGS, we intentionally place our boys in rooms where they can learn their history, understand their worth, and see themselves as leaders in their communities. In a time when our stories are often overlooked, it is our responsibility to teach the truth, show up for our boys, and remind them to stand tall and proud in who they are.

A special thank you to supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe and her entire team for believing in our mission and creating opportunities for our boys to be seen, valued, and included in moments like these.

This weekend, we had the honor of collaborating with Freshly Faded Barber + Shop Freshly Faded Barbershop, and what was created was something truly powerful.

More than 40 men showed up with their families to build community through storytelling. Our children had the opportunity to see Black men reading, leading, engaging, receiving their flowers and simply being present.

These are the moments that remind us that you can't do it alone. That the village matters! And when men show up, our boys confidence grows, families build bonds, and our community gets stronger.

Thank you to everyone who made this special day possible. 🖤💛

Thank you so Myriam 🇩🇿🇨🇭 for your sweet spirit and soul.

Heaven Majesta for always saying yes and bringing the dope crafts and being part of the village

Dametrius Bedgood for being so supportive, believing in the mission and seeing the vision of what we are building at OUR KINGS

Freshly Faded Barber + Shop Derrick for thinking of OUR KINGS can't wait to build more together.

We are tired!

We were honored to be part of the County of San Diego’s Juneteenth Proclamation recognizing June 19, 2026, as Juneteenth Day throughout San Diego County.

An especially proud moment was seeing our young KINGS lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Being invited into a room filled with community leaders, advocates, and changemakers gave our boys the opportunity to see what leadership looks like in action.

At OUR KINGS, we believe leadership is learned by being in the room, using your voice, and showing up with confidence. Moments like these remind our boys that they belong in every space they enter and that their voices matter.

Thank you to everyone who made this meaningful celebration possible as we honored the history, resilience, and legacy of Juneteenth.

Hip Hop, Hip Hop, Hip Hop!!! 🎤

We started this cohort learning about the power of music in our culture, so it was only right that we ended it the same way!

Today the boys had a hip hop dance lesson, but what made it so special was learning the history behind it. The culture, the influence, where it started, and why it matters.

Yes, the boys learned some new moves, but they also learned something even bigger—they are the culture. Their style, their creativity, the way they talk, walk, and show up in the world continues to influence everything around them.

Hold space for that for a minute.

How powerful is it for a young Black boy to know he comes from creators, innovators, and trendsetters? To know that what he brings to the world has value?

At OUR KINGS, our mission is simple: to create space for Black boys to fully live in their childhood while also leaning into the power they hold. We do that through mentorship, leadership development, life lessons, and meaningful experiences that remind them they belong in every room they walk into.

We thank for supporting this space and believing in the mission 🖤💛🫡 and for holding space for us whenever we need it.

So many magical moments at the 5th Annual Hats & Bow Tie Brunch that I can’t fit them all into one post!

But I wanted to take a moment to thank and Henry Foster III for your unwavering support as we continue building up these young men and creating spaces where they feel seen, celebrated, and valued.

To be recognized with a proclamation announcing April 23rd as OUR KINGS Day in the City of San Diego is something we do not take lightly. Even more special was watching our boys stand proudly in that moment, receiving this honor and seeing firsthand that their voices, their presence, and who they are truly matter.

Shout out to the OUR KINGS team and Jordan Brown for always showing up and making things happen behind the scenes. The planning, the calls, the running around, and all the little things people don’t always see.
Our boys were able to experience a moment they’ll remember, and that means everything.
