Last week we had the opportunity to tour Republic Services Otay Sustainability Park with our wonderful SUHSD cafeteria lead staff. They got to see the meaningful impact they are making on our climate by witnessing the Otay Composting Facility they help us contribute to, aswell as the enormous mountains that have been developed over time with layers of landfill waste

Staff even got to see the incredible THOR machine, which works to de-package bags of commercial food waste, and separate contamination from organics. We are incredibly thankful to work with Republic Services on our shared sustainability goals

Volunteering to divert food waste is one thing, but actually seeing how it is composted and redistributed back into the community is another. Collaboration with our cafeteria staff is an essential part of our work here at South Bay Sustainable Communities, thank you to all the cafeteria staff who were able to make it out

Trained up our Y4SF leads on the farm this week! 🌱🌏✨These kids worked so hard and are already such passionate and dedicated people.

Youth 4 a Sustainable Future are the next gen of students that make an impact both off and on their respective campuses towards a more environmentally healthy + equitable future through advocacy, education and action. We are so proud and grateful to get the opportunity to guide and grow such a lovely group of teens from all over the South Bay + beyond!

Students—thanks for being the change you want to see! You are all an inspiration + motivators for working towards a greater shared goal. Keep up the amazing work. ♻️🌱🍎
