HITEC Foundation scholar Camilo is a great example of perseverance. Pursuing a higher education comes with many challenges, and although many scholars have faced bumps on the road to graduation, Camilo has not let those bumps slow him down.

Camilo has been named the Community Advisor and PE and Wellness Coordinator for the Opportunities Summer Program at Hamilton College, where he is now working with the Hamilton Alumni Association as an assistant to the program director.

"I am happy to say that I had an excellent experience with Mr. William Torrealba, the Senior Leader in Solutions Architecture at Amazon." - Camilo Pinto Gonzalez

Last week, during HITEC's Regional event, hosted by IBM in Austin, Texas, HITEC Foundation scholar Val Tamez met with his mentor, Francisco Ortego, in person!

"I had the pleasure of being Francisco’s mentee for the Fall 2025 to Spring 2026 semester. I could tell right away that Francisco is a genuine person who cared about me as a mentee...

I can confidently say that our mentor relationship helped me grow in more ways than I imagined, and I hope it had the same impact on him as it did on me. I look forward to staying in touch with him in the future and I am thankful to HITEC for introducing me to someone who could holistically benefit me as both a person and a professional." - Val Tamez

It's always a joy to be able to connect scholars with great support and mentors with a connection to the future of the tech industry. We look forward to hearing more about their story and connecting future scholars to industry professionals.

🚀 HITEC Scholar Spotlight 🚀

Our Scholars are building momentum and Alexander’s sophomore year is a powerful example of what dedication, mentorship, and opportunity can unlock.
From staying on track for the Dean’s List every semester to earning a research grant, completing the Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate, and working toward CompTIA Security+, Alexander is making the most of every opportunity. He’s also an entrepreneur—founding PropFlow, a startup using AI to automate ESG compliance for real estate, and advancing through Penn State’s competitive Nittany AI Challenge.

A key part of his journey has been the HITEC Foundation Mentorship Program and his mentor, Reynaldo Gonzalez, whose guidance and support have helped Alexander navigate big goals and bold ideas.

“I meet with my HITEC mentor every three weeks—he’s outstanding and has given me great advice.”
— Alexander Taylor, Sophomore, Penn State

This summer, Alexander begins a one-year Co-Op as a Platform Engineer Intern at IBM, while continuing to grow his startup and expand his professional network.

We’re proud to support Scholars like Alexander as they lead, innovate, and shape the future of tech. 💙
