Thank you for spending the week diving into service in Chicago. We spent time at St. James Food Pantry, Just Roots Farm, and participating in an activity where students had to buy & cook their dinner with the amount of money SNAP benefits would provide. This is just a snapshot of all these students encountered this week. Thanks for your spirit and passion for service. We pray that you bring it back to your community and beyond

Thank you, DePaul U! There are a few weeks when we don’t have a retreat in our building. During that time, we work on making the space even better for our groups. DePaul University had their Vincentian Service Day on Saturday, and they came to help us out. We were able to recover some pews to use as seating for our beautiful outdoor space this summer! We are grateful for your time! We love having some extra hands to support.

Another wonderful week with College of St. Benedict and Saint John’s University from Minnesota. The snow didn’t stop them! We served at food pantries, learned from Vince and Mark about the realities of homelessness and incarceration in Chicago. The Darst Center is grateful for their presence and willingness to learn! We hope you bring some of these lessons learned back to your communities.

This past weekend, we hosted Calvert Hall for an immersion. We visited Misericordia, St. Thomas of Canterbury, Just Roots Urban Farm, and heard from the Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness. We dove deep into our own privilege and what it looks like to be with our neighbors in solidarity with regard to food and choice. Thank you Calvert Hall for diving into these issues. We pray that we take these lessons back to our own communities!
