Environmental Justice Organization

The mission of LVEJO is to organize with our community to accomplish environmental justice in Little Village and achieve the self-determination of immigrant, low-income, and working-class families. Our vision is to build a sustainable community that promotes the healthy development of youth and families, provides economic justice, and practices participatory democracy and self-determination. LVEJO

’s theory of social change is centered upon the belief that when low income and people of color understand the root causes of their experiences of oppression, they have the power and agency to transform society. LVEJO’s grassroots organizing model is grounded in three guiding principles:

1) intergenerational leadership that sustains community self-determination

2) it assumes that those directly affected have the solutions to solve their own problems; and

3) it builds upon the existing assets and resources of the community for social change.

Our Summer Resource Fair in action ⚡ we are amongst community partners sharing resources and good vibes! We started off with some movement training led by 💪🏽 some interactive connect 4 and light boxing.

We later kicked off our mini lotería and raffle! Community members learned from local organizations and their campaigns or services by filling out their lotería card to win a goodie produce bag from La Villita farm 🩷🥕🥒🫜 Raffle winners received air or water filters, plants, books and more goodies! There's still more to win at 4pm today!

We are here until 5PM! The cumbia party will begin at 3pm following our next raffle at 4pm!

¡Nuestra Feria de Recursos de Verano en acción ⚡, estamos entre socios comunitarios compartiendo recursos y buenas vibras!

Empezamos con entrenamiento de movimiento dirigido por 💪🏽 algunos interactivos connect 4 y boxeo ligero. ¡Más tarde iniciamos nuestra mini lotería y rifa!

Los miembros de la comunidad aprendieron de organizaciones locales y sus campañas o servicios rellenando su tarjeta de lotería para ganar una bolsa de productos de La Villita Farm 🩷🥕🥒🫜. Los ganadores del sorteo recibieron filtros de aire o agua, plantas, libros y más regalos.

¡Aún hay más por ganar a las 4pm! ¡Estamos aquí hasta las 5:00!

La fiesta de cumbia empezará a las 3pm.

LVEJO and partner community organizations will be tabling and offering resources and updates on local campaigns addressing issues like our air quality, truck traffic, flooding events, food access and more. Emergency mutual aid for Venezuela 🇻🇪❤️

On June 24th, 2026 two earthquakes have caused immense damage across Venezuela, particularly in La Guaira and Caracas.

Support mutual aid efforts by donating, sharing widely or volunteering to ensure these supplies reach the families and individuals directly impacted by this catastrophe.

Did you lose your SNAP benefits due to the new federal SNAP work requirements?

The federal government made changes to SNAP, and some recipients lost their food stamps if they did not meet the new work requirements or qualify for an exemption.

Fight for your food benefits; if you don't qualify for an exemption, you can still meet your work hour requirements by volunteering with local organizations or participating in job training programs.

MAT Still Stinks
Have you woken up to the smell of burning asphalt in your home in the past couple of months? Unfortunately, we have many times. MAT Asphalt continues to pollute harmful fumes in McKinley Park, despite pollution control improvements to their facility made in 2024. We demand that action be taken against their unchecked industrial activity in our neighborhood which brings dust, truck traffic, and noxious fumes. ~~~~ McKinley Park deserves clean air! If you’re in an area while it smells bad, head on over to smellsbad.today to file a complaint to the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois. Hablaremos sobre las fuentes de contaminación, sus impactos en la salud y las soluciones políticas locales para ayudar a limpiar nuestro aire. 💪🏽✨

Contaremos con actividades para jóvenes, comida, refrigerios y servicio de interpretación al español para quienes lo necesiten. To honor April being Earth Month, we’re hosting a community meeting on Wednesday, 4/29 at Casa de Cultura (2057 W 18th St), to discuss how Pilsen, Little Village, McKinley Park, and other Southwest Side neighborhoods of Chicago are disproportionately impacted by air pollution. We’ll talk about air pollution sources, health impacts, and local policy solutions to help clean our air.

We’ll have activities for youth, food, snacks, and Spanish interpretation for those who need it. The space is ADA accessible, but please don’t hesitate to reach out with any accommodation questions beforehand!
