Polish American Association

Polish American Association Our mission: Rooted in Polish heritage for over a century, PAA advances today's diverse immigrant communities.

Founded in 1922, the Polish American Association (PAA) has provided immigrants with programs and services that enable them to change their lives. The PAA is a human services organization providing a comprehensive range of culturally sensitive services to the immigrant communities and others in need. For 99 years, the PAA has created a community dedicated to helping those in need. By providing clie

nts with education, employment, immigration, social, and supportive services, the PAA offers them resources for changing their lives and enhancing their ability to become contributing members of our community. In the year 2019, the PAA has adopted a new 5-year strategic plan that informs existing and new programs. Despite the uncertainty and unprecedented challenges caused by COVID-19 the PAA has been delivering its mission and adhering to the Strategic Plan. Next year our Agency will celebrate its Centennial. Given almost 100 years of experience assisting immigrants and refugees arriving in Chicago, our Plan offers us an opportunity to broaden our vision and open our programs for those currently experiencing the challenges and barriers to a successful transition to our region.

- як хронічний конфлікт може впливати на емоційний стан, поведінку, навчання та стосунки дитини;
- чому дитина, яка бачить або чує насильство між дорослими, також потребує підтримки;
- тривожні сигнали, які можуть проявлятися у різному віці;
як поговорити з дитиною після конфлікту та допомогти їй відчути безпеку;
- чому важливо сказати дитині, що вона не винна, не повинна обирати сторону або мирити батьків;
- як розлучення та тривалий конфлікт впливають на адаптацію дитини.

We invite you to watch the recording of PAA’s free webinar: “How Ongoing Parental Conflict Can Affect a Child.”

Inna Bondarenko, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Domestic Violence Counselor, explains why it is not simply the fact that parents disagree, but the frequency, intensity, and lack of resolution of conflict that can affect a child.

The webinar discusses:
- how chronic conflict may affect a child’s emotional well-being, behavior, learning, and relationships;
- why a child who sees or hears violence between adults is also affected and may need support;
- warning signs that may appear at different ages;
- how to speak with and support a child after a conflict;
- why children need to hear that they are not at fault and do not have to choose sides or make peace between parents;
- how divorce and ongoing conflict can affect a child’s adjustment.

Today, August 16, is officially Polish American Association Day in Chicago

Since 1922, PAA has been committed to supporting individuals and families, strengthening our community, preserving Polish heritage, and helping generations of immigrants build new lives in Chicago.

This anniversary is especially meaningful to us. We are deeply grateful to the Chicago Mayor's Office for honoring our organization with a proclamation officially recognizing August 16, 2026, as Polish American Association Day in Chicago.

This recognition belongs to everyone who has been part of our story over the past 104 years - our clients, staff, volunteers, supporters, partners, community leaders, and generations of families who have placed their trust in PAA.

As we celebrate our history, we also look forward to continuing our mission and serving our community for many years to come.

Thank you, Chicago, for being part of our journey. Here’s to 104 years - and to the future ahead!
