IDHS Secretary Dulce M. Quintero joined Cook County Health and community partners to highlight new federal SNAP work requirements set to begin February 1, 2026.

These changes may require some SNAP recipients to work or volunteer 80 hours a month – or qualify for an exemption – to keep benefits. Those who don’t meet the requirements by May could lose benefits.

No one should lose access to food because they didn’t know the rules or where to get help. Illinois is sharing tools and resources now so people can prepare.
