We wrote about the furniture gap for the Make It Better Foundation "You Said It" competition, and the piece won. It is live now, and it tells the story of what happens when a family finally gets housing and walks into an empty apartment.

Chicago Furniture Bank is 8 years old! Over the past 8 years, we have furnished over 25,000 homes and served over 62,000 Chicagoans.

A lot can change over 8 years, but our mission remains the same. We believe everyone should be able to sleep in a bed, share a family meal at a kitchen table, and enjoy the comfort of a furnished home.

Thank you to our partners, donors, volunteers, and everyone who has been part of the journey so far. Together, we can turn houses into homes and make a difference in our community.

Some news we're proud to share: Chicago Furniture Bank has been named a Spring 2026 grantee of the Northern Trust Foundation, in partnership with the Robert R. McCormick Foundation.

This grant supports housing stability and economic mobility for young people ages 16 to 24 on Chicago's South and West sides. Many youth transitioning out of homelessness secure an apartment and walk into an empty room. No bed. No table. Nowhere to study or rest.

This funding helps us change that by working alongside our nonprofit partner agencies to make sure a first apartment functions as a real home from day one. Because when a young person can sleep, eat, and plan at home, everything else becomes possible: school, work, and the footing to build a future.

Thank you to the Northern Trust Careers and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation for investing in Chicago's young people.
