Where you live matters.

The schools your kids attend. The jobs within reach. The air you breathe. Even how long you live.

Today, the National Fair Housing Alliance and the Urban Institute are launching the Fair Housing Data Mapping Tool — a free, interactive resource that puts comprehensive housing and opportunity data in the hands of policymakers, advocates, local leaders, and everyday people fighting for fair housing.

At a moment when critical public data is being removed or restricted, this tool ensures communities have what they need to:

• Identify where housing discrimination persists
• Invest where resources are most urgently needed
• Measure the impact of policies and investments over time

Explore housing affordability, mortgage lending patterns, school quality, transit access, and environmental conditions — at the state, county, and census tract level.

This Fair Housing Month, data is power.

As the mortgage industry becomes further automated, can artificial intelligence be trained to avoid replicating historic bias and expand access to loans for excluded borrowers? Some housing advocates are cautiously optimistic.
