We're neighbors working together to cultivate community along with food for people and pollinators. Come grow with us!

The Altgeld Sawyer Corner Farm is a little different from most urban gardens and farms. Rather than offering individual plots, we plant and tend the entire space as a community of neighbors. We grow plants for food, beautiful flowers, as well as plants that can be used to make fibers and dye cloth. We partner with Christopher House - a not-for-profit serving low-income families in the neighborhood

- and contribute their food pantry. We have a goal of saving approximately half our harvest for the Christopher House pantry, with the rest of our bounty (which grows every year!) going to neighbors that participate in the garden. If you're interested, you can become part of one of our volunteer teams and help out on a regular basis. We also host bi-monthly farm workdays and weekly community nights, and everyone is welcome to come by and get dirty. Participation level is up to you - and if you work, take a bit of whatever's ripe! The Altgeld Saywer Corner Farm is a meeting place, a classroom, an outdoor laboratory, an art gallery and a much-needed green space in our neighborhood. Our goal is to cultivate not just a garden, but also a community.

Today is so grey and chilly, but when I look back on this weekend's Mindful Living Garden workday, I can feel the sunshine again. Thanks to everyone who came out, and I hope to see you again on April 26!

This Saturday is the first workday of the year at the Mindful Living Garden!
Join us from 10am to 1pm to build stuff, play in the dirt, enjoy yummy refreshments, and hang with your neighbors.

OMG, folks! I can't believe the Mushroom Campfire Extravaganza at the Mindful Living Garden is just a couple days away! Can you believe there are only a few Mindful Living Garden Happy Hours left this year? How did it go by so fast? This week, we're in for an extra special treat! Nick created a Fig Leaf Sour and wants to share this yummy drink with us!
In other happy news, this Happy Hour will be a bit more comfy than some other recent ones - we have more chairs now, and we finally have lights for the seating area. We hope to see everyone there this week!
For those who haven't visited it before, the Mindful Living Garden is at 3323 N. Drake. If you want to drive but don't want to risk a ticket, your best bets for parking are on School St, Central Park, or Belmont.
Also, it tends to cool off quickly in the evening this time of year, so please remember to bring or wear a jacket or hoodie!

Hey all, we just learned that the inimitable Chris Zillis, former Corner Farmer extraordinaire, has departed the mortal plane.

Chris brought so much love, laughter, creativity, and style to the garden, and the beverages he used to make for the Community Nights at The Altgeld Sawyer Corner Farm were a major inspiration for the Happy Hours we now hold at Mindful Living. He was more than a volunteer; Chris was garden family, and wherever amaranth runs amok and the air is filled with laughter, he lives on.

Thanks, everyone, for the beautiful and productive day in the Mindful Living Garden! The new veggie bed is nearly filled with soil, so much weeding happened, and new flowers were planted in the front yard. Thanks to these efforts, the garden looks great!
