On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we honor the firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and everyday heroes who answered the call. Their bravery in the face of catastrophic events and unimaginable tragedy showed the world what true service looks like.
We remember the fallen, support the survivors, and carry their legacy forward.

The Chicago Fire Department mourns the loss of Battalion Chief Sean Kevin, a 30-year veteran of the Department and devoted father of three. 💔
Throughout his career, Chief Kevin rose through the ranks, serving as a Firefighter, Lieutenant and Captain before being promoted to Battalion Chief in 2023. He had just completed his shift and returned home when he passed away.
Please keep the Kevin family and the entire CFD family in your thoughts and prayers, and respect their privacy during this difficult time. Chicago Fire Department

One year ago, catastrophic flooding devastated communities across the Texas Hill Country. Chicago Fire Department Battalion Chief Steven Groszek and Lieutenant Felix Serrano were among eight CFD members of Illinois USAR Task Force 1 who deployed to Texas, spending 14 days supporting search, rescue and recovery operations in dangerous and emotionally demanding conditions.

Hear from Groszek and Serrano, recipients of the 2025 Valor and Exemplary Service Award, as they reflect on the mission and the commitment that kept their team moving forward. Chicago Fire Department
