The greatest measure of leadership isn’t how many people follow you. It’s how many people you prepare to lead without you.

Tonight reminded me why I do what I do. Watching our young people engage, listen, learn, and connect with someone whose life experiences have become lessons for others was truly rewarding.

Leadership isn’t about holding on to a position. It’s about preparing someone else to step into theirs.

I’m not just building programs. I’m building people who will one day build people.

And THAT is the legacy I want to leave behind.

Tonight, leadership met leadership!

We were excited to welcome Senator Lakesia Collins to our Reign Next Leadership Training Zoom session! Senator Collins spoke with our young leaders about the importance of Black representation in leadership, using your voice, and understanding that there is power in having people who look like you represented in the spaces where decisions are made.

Our youth aren’t just learning about leadership, they’re getting the opportunity to hear from leaders who are doing the work in their communities every day.

Thank you, Senator Lakesia Collins , for pouring into the next generation of leaders!

There’s something powerful about doing the work YOURSELF.

Today, I received my Nonprofit Management Training Program Completion Certificate from DePaul University, and this one means a little more to me.

I’m grateful to the United Way Chicago Bridge Builders Fund for investing in my growth and providing the funding that made this opportunity possible. But one thing I’ve learned along this journey is this:

Opportunities can be given. Doors can be opened. Resources can be provided. But nobody can do the WORK for you.

When you put in the hours, show up, learn, grow, ask the questions, and complete the assignment, the EXPERIENCE belongs to YOU. The knowledge belongs to YOU. And nobody can rewrite the story later and tell you what they “made” you or what they “did” for you.

I’m building The Reign Project with intention, and I will continue investing in becoming a stronger leader for the people and communities we serve.

Another certificate earned. Another level unlocked. And another reminder:

Do the work so well that your RECEIPTS speak for themselves.

Every Tuesday, 16 young people choose to SHOW UP, LEARN, and LEAD and that brings me more joy than I can explain!

Tonight’s Reign Next Leadership Training focused on what it really means to become an Executive Director and, more importantly, what it means to be a LEADER.

Leadership isn’t just a title. It’s integrity, accountability, decision-making, showing up for others, and understanding the responsibility that comes with being in charge.

Watching these young people ask questions, participate, challenge themselves, and begin seeing themselves as future executives is EVERYTHING to me.

I’m not just teaching a class, I’m preparing the next generation to take a seat at the table… and eventually, RUN THE TABLE. 👏🏽🔥

This is succession planning in REAL TIME.

Reign Next. Because they’re not waiting on the future, they ARE the future.

REIGN NEXT LEADERSHIP PROGRAM | LEARNING TO PIVOT!

Tonight, we talked about a life lesson every young person needs to understand: Your first job may not be your dream job, and THAT’S OKAY!

Graduation doesn’t always mean stepping directly into your chosen career. Sometimes you have to work jobs you never imagined, gain experience, build connections, and develop skills along the way.

We discussed the importance of learning to PIVOT, staying focused, and understanding that every opportunity can be a stepping stone toward your bigger goals.

Your journey may not look exactly how you planned, but that doesn’t mean you’re not making progress!

The goal isn’t to start at the top. It’s to keep climbing!

Tonight, our future leaders stepped into the world of MARKETING

We explored how to market a business, build a personal brand, and understand that YOU are your own walking advertisement!

From making first impressions to promoting your skills and talents, our youth learned that how you present yourself matters just as much as what you bring to the table!

We’re not just preparing them for jobs… we’re preparing them to become LEADERS, ENTREPRENEURS, and THE BRAND!

Tonight we officially completed our FIRST Youth Leadership class!

16 young leaders from across Chicago and the suburbs showed up at 7PM ready to LEARN! They participated, asked questions, shared their thoughts, and stayed engaged the entire time.

I thought getting teenagers excited about a 7PM class might be tricky… but THEY DID THAT!

This is only the beginning. Leadership is loading…

For six weeks, our young leaders will be challenged to grow, think differently, develop professionally, and learn what it truly means to LEAD.
