Congratulations to JCI Greater Muskegon, recipient of the 2025 Local Community Empowerment Program Award for their Community Book Swap!

What started as a simple book exchange became a powerful example of JCI in action. Through partnerships with local authors, the Muskegon Area District Library, local businesses, and a nonprofit organization, the chapter created an event that encouraged literacy, fostered community connections, and gave pre-loved books a new life.

Beyond the books, the project provided members with hands-on leadership experience while strengthening relationships throughout the community. From building partnerships to developing future leaders, this project shows how local Jaycees are turning ideas into impact every day.

Through their Milkweed Giveaway, Pollinator Education initiatives, and ongoing improvements at Jaycee Park, JCI Springfield is creating lasting environmental impact while developing future leaders. By empowering members to lead projects, fostering community partnerships, and promoting biodiversity through education and conservation efforts, they are bringing UN Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land to life.

Their vision to expand native plantings, educational programming, and park signage continues to inspire meaningful change for both people and the environment. 💚🐝🦋

🌧️ Before May Comes to a Close...
As we wrap up Mental Health Awareness Month, take a moment to check in with yourself.

Leadership, service, work, family, and everyday responsibilities can feel overwhelming at times. When stress starts to build, one simple mindfulness tool can help you pause and regain perspective: the RAIN Technique, developed by Michele McDonald and later popularized by psychologist Tara Brach.

🌧 RAIN
R — Recognize: Notice what you’re feeling in the moment. Stress, frustration, anxiety, sadness… simply acknowledge it.

A — Allow: Let the feeling exist without immediately trying to push it away or judge yourself for it.

I — Investigate: Gently get curious. What does this feeling need? What triggered it? Where do you feel it in your body?

N — Nurture: Offer yourself kindness or support. Take a breath, step outside, talk to someone, or remind yourself: This moment will pass.

Whether you're leading a project, supporting your chapter, volunteering in your community, or balancing the many roles life brings, tools like this can help us pause, reset, and respond with intention.

Just like spring rain nourishes the earth, giving space to our emotions can help us grow through them. Even leaders need a moment to let it RAIN.
