In addition to HD Awareness Month, May is also Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

AAPI athletes, coaches, and officials have shaped the beautiful game in the United States — and their contributions to soccer continue to grow every year.

This month, we celebrate the AAPI community both on and off the pitch. Their resilience, culture, and talent make our sport and our country stronger.

3 years ago today we lost our friend and colleague Terry Vaughn after a courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease (HD). Terry’s legacy lives on in many ways.

We miss his friendship, his sincerity, and his steadfast dedication to the game and the referee community.

We continue to raise awareness for HD, especially in the month of May, by wearing our blue wristbands during matches. (Link in our bio to order HD bands)

For you Terry! 💙💙

May is Huntington’s Disease Awareness Month.

Our brother and friend Terry Vaughn, former MLS and FIFA official, was taken from us far too soon in May 2023 after his courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease (HD).
HD is a rare, inherited neurodegenerative disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It affects movement, cognition, and behavior, typically between ages of 30 and 50. HD does not currently have a cure.

Every May officials from all over the country wear blue HD sweatbands to bring awareness to the disease and to honor Terry.

Watch as a few of our referees share what Huntington’s Disease is, why this fight matters to them personally, and how they remember Terry’s legacy every time they step on the pitch.

Rest in peace, Terry. 💙💙
