Update on the Crewe Community Garden . Early planting is underway. Gardeners are putting in young plants, including planting seeds. You'll see onion, lettuce, greens, herbs, and more. And on the back side of the garden, several rows were plowed and seeds planted to support Crewe Cares food pantry. Another addition is our water catchment system that collects water from the roof of the library when it rains. This water is then available for the gardeners. Rain water is amazing for gardens. So who can garden in these raised beds? Anyone who lives in the area and pays the $30 annual fee. They can garden for themselves and their families and friends. Or they can donate produce to Crewe Cares or both. There are currently 3 spaces remaining, if you are interested. Forms to sign up are available at the Crewe Library.
The Literacy Program has reserved a space again this year to grow herbs and a few flowers for herb tea and also culinary purposes. I will probably have another class on blending your own herb tea late summer or early Fall. And I will be giving herbs to those who want to make their own tea or use for their cooking. If you drop by the library check to out books or attend one of our events or classes, see me if you want a tour of the herb garden and have questions about herbs.
Don't forget about our little garden festival and BBQ in the garden on Saturday, May 30th from 10am to 2pm. You can learn more about gardening and get a burger!
