Help us welcome the newest member of the CIS-C team, Reese Askins!

Reese joins us as our new Development & Communications Coordinator, bringing experience in marketing, communications, project management, and events, along with a passion for connecting people to meaningful work.

In her role, Reese will help us share the stories of our students and schools, celebrate the partners who make this work possible, and create even more ways for our community to connect with the CIS-C mission.

We’re so excited to have Reese on our team as we kick off a new school year. Please join us in giving her a warm CIS-C welcome!

Collaboration makes our community stronger — and we’re proud to see that work recognized nationally!

Meadowdale Library - Chesterfield County Public Library's Community Connections: Fostering Collaboration initiative has received a National Association of Counties Achievement Award for its innovative approach to bringing partners together to better serve our community.

Since launching in 2023, Community Connections has grown to include more than 40 participants representing 19 organizations across county government, schools, nonprofits, libraries, public safety, social services, churches, and other community partners. Through monthly meetings, the coalition identifies emerging needs, shares resources, closes gaps, and develops solutions together.

We’re especially proud that CIS-C Program Manager Elizabeth Stowers has been part of this award-winning effort, working alongside Meadowdale Librarian Carla Siqueiros and Branch Manager James Hudson, whose leadership helped bring Community Connections to life. James also serves as a CIS-C mentor, making this recognition especially meaningful to our team!

It’s a great example of what can happen when people and organizations across Chesterfield bring their strengths, resources, and relationships to the same table, and exactly the kind of community collaboration that helps students and families thrive.

Congratulations to Elizabeth, Carla, James, and all of the Community Connections partners on this well-deserved national recognition!

We’re looking for someone who believes students deserve a person in their corner—someone who notices, listens, connects the dots, and helps make sure no student has to navigate challenges alone.

CIS-C is hiring a Site Coordinator at L.C. Bird High School to join the Skyhawk community and help students access the relationships, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive.

If you’re a relationship-builder, problem-solver, and passionate advocate for young people, we’d love to hear from you.

Tomorrow is the first day of school!

As students across Chesterfield head back to the classroom, our roads will once again be filled with school buses traveling more than 9 million miles each year to help students get to and from school safely.

At Communities In Schools of Chesterfield, our work is all about helping students overcome barriers so they can show up to school ready to learn, grow, and succeed. And creating a safe, supportive environment for students extends beyond the walls of the school — it takes all of us!

A few important reminders for drivers:
🛑 STOP COMPLETELY for flashing red lights and an extended stop arm.
⚠️ SLOW DOWN in school zones, near bus stops, and in residential neighborhoods.
💛 BE ALERT & PATIENT as students get on and off the bus.

And remember: the rules for stopping for a school bus depend on the type of roadway you’re traveling on. Swipe for a quick refresher!

Here’s to a safe first day and a great school year ahead. Thank you for doing your part to help Chesterfield students arrive safely and ready to learn!

Our team is back together, and we’re ready for the year ahead!

We kicked off the 2026–27 school year with our annual Opening Day Retreat, centered around this year’s theme: Every Student Needs a Team. And strong student teams start with a strong CIS-C team.

We spent the day learning, connecting, and having a little fun along the way. A huge thank you to Tammy Hobson for helping us begin building a shared understanding of coaching across our organization; Bryant & Stratton College for welcoming us into their new space and giving us a look at their hands-on healthcare training; and Lloyd Young (VCU DaVinci Center) and Andrew Ilnicki (UofR's Innovation Studio) for getting us thinking, building, and collaborating through LEGO Serious Play.

And, of course, there’s no better way to end a full day together than a little friendly competition at Richmond Pinball Collective!

We’re reconnected, recharged, and ready to show up for students, families, and schools all year long.

It’s official — CIS-C is now at Beulah Elementary School!

We were thrilled to celebrate the launch of our 17th partner school this morning alongside Chesterfield County Public Schools, Chesterfield County School Board members, the Beulah Elementary team, our CIS-C Board, and so many community partners and supporters.

Special thanks to FirstChoice, a MarshBerry Company and Eggs Up Grill for helping us celebrate with breakfast!

Beulah’s motto, “All Hands on Deck,” couldn’t be a better fit. Together, we’re bringing even more people around students and families to help them thrive.

Welcome to the CIS-C family, Beulah Whales! Here’s to a whale of a year! 🐳

Back-to-school season takes a lot of hands, and we’re grateful for these helping ones!

A big thanks to Bon Secours St. Francis Health System and their team for collecting and donating school supplies to support students across our CIS-C partner schools. These supplies will make their way to our Site Coordinators, who can put them to use whenever a student needs them throughout the school year.

We even had some extra help with the delivery from our Executive Director’s daughter, who happily stepped in as our littlest CIS-C helper for the day!

Thank you, Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center, for showing up for our students and being part of the community surrounding them. We’re so glad to have you on their team!

📚 What an incredible surprise for our students!

A huge thank you to Costco on Mall Drive for their generous donation to Falling Creek Middle School. They gifted nearly 400 backpacks, plus a $500 gift card, to help students start the school year ready to learn.

Community partnerships like this make a real difference, helping ensure students have the tools they need to walk into school with confidence.

Thank you, Costco, for investing in our students and showing what it means to be All In For Kids!
