Fall festivities all week long! 🎃🎃🎃

Schools across Chesterfield celebrated the season this week through Trunk-or-Treats, pumpkin patches and fall festivals for the whole family. It’s been a great week of bringing families, students and school staff together with big smiles and fun costumes!

A huge thank you to our many community partners that helped bring these events to life, like our friends at Chesterfield Baptist Church, Chesterfield Berry Farm and Elkhardt Baptist Church who delivered hundreds of pumpkins to Chalkley Elementary School for students to pick. Thanks also to all the partners that tabled at festivals to share their resources like Sentara Health, or showed up big with their own trunk-or-treat like Chesterfield County Police!

We wish everyone a fun and safe Halloween weekend!

A sweet evening at Bensley Elementary for Donuts with Dads! 🍩

At Donuts with Dads, fathers and father figures were invited to gather together for sweet treats while learning about the WATCH D.O.G.S. program, a community engagement initiative for Dads of Great Students. It was a fantastic turnout with so many families!

Communities in Schools and Watch D.O.G.S. share the belief that every student benefits when a caring adult shows up. Together as a community, we can continue to provide students with strong, positive role models who demonstrate the power and importance of education.

Thank you to our friends at Watch D.O.G.S. and Bensley Site Coordinator Kyle Sport for bringing families together to connect around a shared value: seeing our students thrive!

We mustache you a question ...〰️ Will you join the CIS-C 'Stache Squad?

We're so excited to share that this November, Communities in Schools of Chesterfield is a beneficiary of Mustaches for Kids Richmond (M4K Richmond). All month long, participants grow mustaches to raise money for local nonprofits, including CIS-C!

To add to the fun, M4K Richmond hosts weekly gatherings throughout the area, offering a chance to meet other participants, celebrate progress, and simply have some fun while supporting local nonprofits. It all culminates in the final celebration: the 'Stache Bash 🏆

Not a 'stache sprouter? No problem! M4K is for anyone with a heart for kids. Whether fundraising yourself or donating to another mustache grower, everyone can join the fun and support the cause.

Growing together at the 2026 Communities In Schools of Virginia Summit 🌱

This week, our entire CIS-C team met with the other Communities in Schools affiliates from across the state for a chance to connect, collaborate, and explore new ways to strengthen our collective impact for students and their families throughout Virginia.

We also had the opportunity to give back together through a service project benefiting Shineforth, packing backpacks filled with essentials for youth in foster care.

We're returning from Summit inspired and ready to make an even bigger difference - with a few awards in-hand! Congrats to two of our Site Coordinators, Laura Marrow (Falling Creek Elementary School) and Christopher Lee (Ettrick Elementary School), who were recognized for their outstanding work and dedication to helping students stay in school and achieve in life! 🏆

What a great few days of learning, service, and celebrating the people who make this work possible!

At Communities in Schools, our work is grounded in the five essentials that every student needs and deserves:

Site Coordinators like Emily Robins at Marguerite Christian Elementary and community partners like Mercy Mall of VA bring these five principles to life, creating an environment for students to thrive and see their pathway to a brighter future ✨

So many smiling faces wearing their new glasses! ✨

A huge CIS-C thank you to our community partner, Conexus, who recently brought their Mobile Vision Clinic to Bellwood Elementary, Harrowgate Elementary, and Manchester Middle!

Hundreds of students received free vision screenings and life-changing glasses thanks to our friends at Conexus. Being able to see clearly means the difference in seeing the classroom board, seeing and better understanding homework, and succeeding in school overall.

Our community partners make a world of difference for our students, all further building the network of support around students in Chesterfield, helping ensure they stay in school and achieve in life. Thank you, Conexus!

It's time to see who's won our Birdies for Charity raffle! ⛳

Thank you to all who supported Communities in Schools of Chesterfield through this year's Birdies for Charity event. Your gifts help us provide students with the support, respect and opportunities they deserve to succeed in school and in life.

The CIS-C team continues to grow!

We're excited to welcome Justin Palimore, who joins Talaya Oxendine as a Site Coordinator at L.C. Bird High School. In his role, Justin will work directly with students and partner with families, school staff, and community partners to connect students with the relationships and resources they need to succeed.

Justin comes to CIS-C from Richmond Behavioral Health, where he provided case-managed support and services to local students and families. He earned his degree in Sociology from Christopher Newport University, but his connection to Bird goes back even further: Justin is a former Skyhawk himself!

We are thrilled to have Justin on our team - join us in giving him a warm CIS-C welcome!

As National Attendance Month draws to a close, students at Manchester Middle School Home of the Lions are celebrating their attendance wins ⭐

Manchester's Attendance Team brought a challenge to their students: meet attendance goals for a chance to win a golden ticket and sweet treats!

As we progress into the school year, our Site Coordinators are motivating students to stay engaged and on top of attendance. Being present matters - both for students showing up to the classroom, and for Site Coordinators showing up in their lives every day as a trusted resource.
