The Carter Society The Carter Society seeks to honor those early Carters who came to the Virginia Colony and their famil

The following chapters have been established within the Society based upon those Carter patriots of Colonial Virginia who have known living descendants:
Giles Carter I of Henrico County
John Carter I of Lancaster County
Thomas Carter I of Lancaster County
Thomas Carter I of Isle of Wight County
William Carter of Surry

Incorporated as a non-profit heritage organization, the Carter Society offers

a unique opportunity to come to know those who share a common heritage, a common interest, and a common goal. The Carter Society is a corporation led by a Board of Directors who are elected at the annual meeting and serve for a term of two years, or until the next election. Officers are elected by the directors at the first meeting of the Board of Directors following the annual meeting, and serve concurrently with their directorship. The principal officers of the Society are the President, Secretary, and Treasurer, although the Board may also elect one or more Vice-Presidents, Assistant Secretaries, and Assistant Treasurers, as necessary. Committees may be appointed by the President, except the membership committee, which is elected by the Board.

Registration for the Reunion and our room block ends August 15th! Those staying at the Quality Inn - 599 North Main Street in Kilmarnock, VA 22482 Book directly by calling them at (804) 436-1500 in the rates under our block "The Carter Society."

The rates for the rooms are: Double Queens - $125.10 + tax, Kings - $127.30 + tax. The actual reunion dates for attendance run September 16-20, 2026. We extended the rate to start on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 for those wishing to come early.

Registration is open for the 2026 Carter Society Reunion! To make your reservations at the Quality Inn located at 599 North Main Street Kilmarnock, VA 22482 for the 2026 reunion please call 804-436-1500. Rates: Double Queens - $125.10 + tax or Kings - $127.30 + tax. They would not keep the block of rooms beyond 8/14. This is the only hotel in the region!

Our final stop of the day was Berkeley Plantation. Theodorick Bland of Westover sold the land to Benjamin Harrison III. His son built the Georgian style home for he and his wife, Sarah Ann Carter, who was the daughter of Robert “King” Carter in 1726. The first ten US Presidents have visited this property. Sorry no inside photography allowed, but the docents were very knowledgeable!
