Hypovitaminosis E is a vitamin E deficiency that can cause fat tissues to become necrotic, leading to inflammation in the muscle. The primary symptom we see is bilateral enlarged masseter muscles - like the swelling you see on Yoshi's face. This is often caused by poor diet like feeding low-vitamin E foods, such as mealworms alone, or freeze-dried insects without gut-loading and a lack of multivitamins.
Treatment includes supplemental vitamin E, and selenium. Advanced cases carry a grave outcome, but Yoshi is eating and seems to be thriving so we are hopeful with the right diet and some time and care he will do great.
