As we wrap up this week and reflect on this past Monday, MilVet Community wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who came out on Memorial Day and took part in our annual Celebration of Life. The weather gave us initial concerns.
Memorial Day is a time to remember and solemnly honor those we have lost, but we also believe it should be a time to celebrate their lives, their impact, and the community they helped to create.
For many veterans, Memorial Day can be one of the hardest days of the year. Our hope has always been to create a place where all of us can come together — not only to remember, but also to connect, heal, laugh, share stories, and remind one another that no one carries this burden alone.
This was MilVet Community’s fourth year hosting the Celebration of Life, and over those four years we have watched it grow. More importantly, we have witnessed healing happen as veterans connect with one another and within the community around them.
That has been truly special to see.
To Shepherd's Men — thank you for the incredible work and healing you provide for our brothers and sisters. The march is what helped start this amazing day in the community five years ago, and we are honored to serve alongside and partner with you all.
We humbly thank every volunteer who helped make this event possible. From putting the pig on Sunday during a torrential downpour, staying up through the night watching it cook for 16 hours, serving food, set up and breakdown and supporting the community all day long — we could not have done this without you. Because of your dedication, we were able to feed hundreds.
Special thanks to First Baptist Woodstock, Wilkes Meat Market, Rally Point Grille/Semper Fi Bar and Grille, Big Easy BBQ - Hickory Flat , Performance Food Group, and Black Rifle Coffee Company - Woodstock, GA for donating food and financial support.
Last, but definitely not least, thank you to our amazing hosts at Reformation Brewery - Woodstock for always supporting our mission and community.
